SS Skydweller hypothetical
I got a message from my AD a couple of weeks back with a glorious photo of a SS Skydweller blue dial in his hands.
Psyche! The next message let me know it had gone to a VVIP, but that I was “next on the list”. As much as I claim to be on a watch buying diet at the moment, if I get the call for a blue dial SS SkyDweller , of course I’ll buy it. Here’s a bit of low level AD game theory for you - The question is : what do you think I should do if I’m in the lucky position of getting the call for a white or a black dial version sometime this side of the turn of the decade instead of the blue dial? Both of these look great, but I do have a preference for the blue dial and I expect that if I buy one of the others, I’ll be back down to the bottom of the list...with an even longer wait for the preferred blue dial. SS SkyDwellers are dripping into ADs here at a glacial pace (1 every 4 months or so), so it could be a long wait for my desired dial. I’m trying to set up my first poll ...bear with e if I fail miserably |

As you mentioned, its extremely difficult to get SS Sky-Dweller in Asia - allocations are limited and large waiting lists.
I was into blue dial as well until I saw both blue & black dial on hand and then ended up with black dial. If you have chance, just try to see both colors at ADs and decide which one you like more. |

When I saw all three at the dealer event earlier this year it was (surprisingly) the white that really got my attention. I like the black too and the blue would be my third choice. I should day that black dials are normally always my preference but the white was really suited to the Sky D
If one comes in, go try it on (whatever colour) and see what you think

Personally, I would get the one I want most, regardless of the wait.

Get whatever they offer, if black or white flip it to a second-hand dealer with added $ for blue dial... or just wait for blue dial. Call greys and see what type of deals they are offering. Seems David, Takuya, SD, etc are buying anything he can get their hands on.
Must say after about a month of wearing one 24/7 the blue dial is incredible! Yet for me it's not just the dial, since i travel the movement is awesome! Far better/easier than any Patek i've had that's for sure (World Time, perpetual, etc), as it is sooo easy to change time zones forward or backward plus the date keeps proper indication too. Rolex has a true winner on their hands here. Rolex may have priced it too low and are now realizing... imho. BTW, after 24/7 wear for almost a month she is -4 seconds.

Why would you settle for something else if you want a blue dial?

SS Skydweller hypothetical
Blue for me too. Was my first choice and I got the only one my AD had in their allocation.

Out of curiosity, what is the retail price of a steel Skydweller in Hong Kong now?
What is the grey market in HK asking for now in HKD? |

There was not a response of wait or don't buy, so I will say, pause. I owned the YG and WG Sky-Dwellers on the bracelet and liked the size, weight and bracelet. I could not get used to the dial and I did not need the functions of the watch. Both ended up leaving my collection to be replaced with a Platinum DD II and a YG Submariner with the black dial. I know that the Sky-Dweller is a hot watch right now, as it is a new release, but I would consider pausing and giving it a little time in the market. When the hype dies down you will still be able to buy the watch if you so desire or you may find something else you prefer. Just my thoughts.

If you want the blue dial, then I'd wait As others have said.
Personally I'd choose the white or black over the blue anyway, so no conundrum for me |

Usually I would wait, but these are infuriatingly unstable times and if I gauge that the wait could be many months and even up to a year then I'd get whichever came in first and enjoy it until you can trade over to the blue. Life's too short to just wait out these strange days.

I prefer this watch with a black or white dial, so the choice would be easy for me. If you truly want the blue dial then wait for it. I’ve made the mistake before of settling and it never works.

I haven't been able to try on a SS Sky.
Is the Explorer II about the same size and weight? |
