UK customs makes me nervous and i don't ever do anything wrong to begin with.

I would be returning that, the scratch itself would be enough to take it back. Please keep us posted.

My feelings too. Return the watch.

Name the establishment please.

As another senior member has asked already, are you sure it was an Authorized Dealer?

Yeah, I couldn't be happy with that watch. Too many issues. We buy these things for the experience and it must be perfect... The scratch alone is enough for me as I also refuse to have a brand new watch I paid full list (plus some tax) for polished a day after purchase.

The warranty card would have to be filled out for me also. I'm a collector and love having everything so the booklet, tags, and bezel protector are key.

Again, in your shoes if given the option return that piece! I can't see you being happy with it because of the issues you've mentioned.

That’s why a UK member buying in USA is rarely what it’s cracked up to be. You’ll end up with a close to £9k BLNR.

Return it and buy in UK...you’ll be glad you did.
Exactly and a scratch and poor AD service on top! Return it and buy from WF or Blowers etc.

How the hell did they manage that scratch? As far as repair vs replace I guess it would depend on how that works with your schedule and the availability of the replacement BLNR. Likely it's a minor polish job and clearly it's a light scratch (not deep). Sounds like you were dealing with a basic minimum wage clerk who really didn't know what they were doing (regarding the unfilled warrantee card) and as far as the scratch is concerned, well accidents do happen.

Return it.

I can overlook a lot of things that an AD might get wrong, but that list is ridiculous.

They need training. No employee at an AD for any brand should be that incompetent.

I know you just got it and it's difficult to give it back, but I would wait for one from a different AD.

Hey guys,

Thanks very much for all your input. I’m not looking to cause anyone’s business problems. Ifi had gone in today and they had been unhelpful I would name them. Bottom line is there are other implications with returning it that arnt initially prominent.
They straight out offered me a 100% refund but we come to a compromise and the got me the cover and stuff I was missing.
Although it’s a shame I had to return and complain I’m now happy with the watch. As with the exchange rate and price, I may be a new member but I’ve done my research and I’m happy with the price I’ve paid.
Once again thanks for the advice, I appreciate all your help.

So you took tags and a service booklet the stuff you should have got from the start ....and let them off the hook on a scratch on a brand new watch ...you got hustled

Often is as they have at least some in stock. However, I prefer TRF trusted sellers and some ADs in Europe, specifically Austria and Italy. They seem to be willing to negotiate price down when you establish some kind of relationship. I save on VAT and it is a win-win situation.

Glad you are happy OP, but just one thing.

The point of naming an AD is to help the people of the community so the same thing doesn't happy to someone else.

Your experience was terrible and it is in no way what someone buying a Rolex should go through. I wouldn't want someone to go to a dealer that scratches a new watch, doesn't fill out the warranty card, and forgets to give you your links.

The AD does not properly train its employees and any business that is incompetent should have problems.

Sorry about your experience. I would have returned the watch if it was not complete and with the scratch, its hard not to return the watch. But if you are now pleased, I guess that's all that really matters. From what I read here this model is tough to buy in your country. So enjoy.

There is plenty of used/LNIB stock here, just have to pay a small premium which works out far cheaper than buying from abroad, esp outside the EU VAT zone.

Good luck.

This is a community of watch enthusiasts who exchange ideas and help each other with issues and information. Naming the AD is a courtesy to forum members who you came to for help. If its a decent AD, then this incident was a one-off and business won't be hurt. If this is a normal incompetent business practice at the AD then the forum members you came to for advice would like to be able to avoid it. And perhaps in the process the AD will get better.

What are the other implications with returning it that aren't initially prominent?

What was the compromise?

Exactly what other items did the give you?

Welcome to TRF. I hope you stick around to both learn and contribute.

If I am buying brand new, I will not tolerate a scratch that needs to be polished away. I can only live with scratches that I create from wearing and enjoying the watch.
