RO Chrono i would pick Blue with white sub dials The 15400 is the best model to start with IMHO, but since you are throwing a daytona into the mix I assume you prefer a chrono. In that case I would take the AP chrono blue/white over the 116500 every time. |

Isn't the 116500ln going for above retail now? Rather wait till the current mad rush dies down.
Was also contemplating the daytona before getting the AP diver on bracelet as I found the look of AP to be the more exquisite of the two and after handling it the better finished of the two. |

For a classic and good starter to the RO: 15400 hands down or 15450 (same as the 15400 just at 37mm) if have a smaller wrist or prefer a smaller watch.
Typical feedback (based on people's preference): Boutique Blue --> Black --> White/Silver (and I'm sure the new Grey will slot in there somewhere). Blue is the most recognized but I think all the dials colors are pretty balanced. Other than the blue which you can only get at the boutique (and therefore, "exclusive" + no discounts = higher resale value for buying it at the full price to start... MSRP is the same), prices for the other colors don't differ much or at all (used or new). I heard Grey is boutique as well? So it might command a slight premium to start than the black or white/silver. I personally went with the white/silver. Personal preference. ... If you can reach, no one would argue the 15202 Jumbo is probably the favourite... AP logo at 6. Classic blue. Classic 39 mm. Most balanced. Traditional JLC movement. |

Since you already have a few Rolex options (which ones btw?), I would move towards AP. Although having both is nice ;)

I am very much a chronoholic and would say that if only one--- get the chrono. Ido not use the function often but love that the looks and ability to time events if need be. The new line of RO chronos are quite attractive. I really like the new greydial with blue subdials. i saw one at the NYC boutique. Not sure it is worth the premium in terms it is almost double the price of the standard models. It will be interesting to see how much these hold their value. I own 3 APs and two are chronos. My royal oak chrono is the pride of italy limited production version

I am biased but the ROC is to me a perfect watch. You get the look and finish of the original with a great complication

Thanks for the info as well. Might have to stop by the AD to take a look. Would love to see the dial in person. |

Would you consider the 15400 only a starter watch? I mean, can't it hold its own, especially that blue dial? From my understanding the reason the jumbo is so coveted is because it is the original Royal Oak. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I describe the 15400 or 15450 as a good "starter" since for a modern piece it's probably the most affordable and available. The 15300 has increased over time and the previous models are quite rare in good condition and decent price. If you want a modern and new piece the 15400 is a good place to start. |

Don't confuse a good "starter" watch with an inferior watch or a lower quality one. Anything in AP's catalogue stands up to pretty much any watch out there. I consider it a starter watch because its a good intro to the brand and a good place to start (pricing aside) because it is a good all around choice. It is a RO, It is modern sized, it has time and date, and it is versatile. Once you get that, then you can start getting into other parts of AP's line up. Thats what i did anyway. |

If you want a chrono I say 116500 because it is a true inhouse integrated chrono, the AP chrono a are infra thin movements with chrono modules bolted on top, this in my mind is not a recipe for durability, and also ensures sky high service costs. A chrono is by nature a somewhat sporty watch, because face it, if you are out watching and timing something, you are in a more sporty/ rugged setting than say a business meeting.
For ultimate three hand watch I vote 15400, but for a true to form and function chrono, Rolex without a doubt! Good luck! |

Depends what you have in your collection. My choices are
1. AP RO 15202 blue dial 2. Rolex Daytona 116500LN white dial 3. AP ROC blue dial |
