New service prices … wow!

Hi TRFers,

Recently reported that the RSC Beverly Hills was closed. So, had to send my wife’s SD 16600 in for interval service via my AD. I found out it went to Dallas.

AD called me a few weeks after dropping it off to say the RSC estimate was $850. Hmmm. I thought, wondering if that included the new crystal (my wife’s was chipped). AD said “nope, that’s just for the service.” Hmmm again, how could an RSC miss a chipped crystal?

This bothered me, so I called RSC Dallas, provided my reference number and discovered RSC was going to need another $155 for a SD crystal, bring my total to $1,050. Whoa! That’s expensive. My mind can’t rest so I ask the RSC rep. How did a chipped crystal make it past the RSC inspection process? What else was missed? Answer was equally dissatisfying “I don’t know, but I’ve added it to you service request.”

Hmmm …

Missing the chipped crystal is unsettling.

Disturbing - yet NOT Surprising….
For your future watch repairing/servicing needs -
May I suggest getting a local Rolex repair expert (former Rolex or Tourneau or similar watchmaker will do) to be your go to for all your servicing needs - it will save you a lot of time, money and aggravation going forward…..
Good Luck!

Thanks!

No way I would trust a lesser experienced watch guy doing a sympathetic polish.

The cost should be $750 if you decline the polishing....

FWIW: In April 2018, I sent a GMT to the Dallas RSC, and the base price for their "full service" was $700. They also replaced several items inside the watch, and the final bill was around $1,250...and it was totally worth it.
To go first class only costs a whole lot more.

Looks like a beautiful unpolished and mint 16600. Make sure to have them written not to polish your watch!

The price is normal but I am surprised they didn't pick up on the chipped crystal. Hopefully a quick turnaround.

It is expensive. I must say I've only had positive experiences with RSC, so the cost 'is what it is.'

BTW, pretty bada*^ that your wife has a 16600!

Sounds about right. When you drive an exotic, the oil changes are a lot more than the regular pedestrian vehicles.

I'd ask for it back and find an independent you trust. This is not going to end well if you have an eye for details.

Not surprising on the price. It will be right when it comes back. I would not have them polish it and I would replace the crystal.

Estimates are made by humans, and humans make mistakes. Wouldn't be too worried about it tbh.

RSC is (relatively) reasonable and very timely / fast in service.

I am in the Patek Lange world somewhat and those prices seem absolutely great to me. And you get a super-fast turnaround. A win win. Raising costs affect everyone, including RUSA service.

Last year I had my 16600 serviced at Bangkok RSC for around $700 without polishing. They did a great work and the watch is running +1 spd.

Heck, my Zenith crystal was $471 back in 2019 on top of a $800 service fee... Makes me think twice about another Zenith - but I do love some of their new watches.

RSC Dallas charged me $500 for a green Milgauss crystal replacement. They are the only game in town for that item, so I was happy to get it.

Not so long ago, I paid the service for a date sub at 550 euros or chf
Now we're down to 1000,-

This makes me put the Audemars 1700'- into perspective for a chrono!

Yes, it’s expensive and Rolex has caught up in this area, alas!
And with the volumes, it could very well be a growth driver.

This must be put in parallel with the industrialization of after-sales service (an operator will dismantle all the bracelet cases, another dial hands, another oscillating mass, etc.) and all this could very well be done on the new site
