Took me awhile, but I finally did it!

I have been whittling down my Rolex collection slowly but surely for a year or so now, and trying to get special pieces that I had long desired. Of course a 5711 was one of those pieces.

I have zero relationship with any Patek AD, and did not want to establish one. I have spent much time, energy and money developing relationships at Rolex and FPJ, but the thought of doing it again just made no sense from a time or money perspective (to me).

Lucky for me, I have always preferred the white dial, which made things a bit easier for me on my hunt - in two ways, first they are a touch cheaper, and second, since they are discontinued, I didn't have to struggle with paying over retail as there is no retail anymore - the market price is the price.

So, my collection is much smaller these days but very carefully curated. I have a couple big FPJs coming in next year, but for the most part I am on cruise control now. So so happy I finally just went for it and got exactly what I wanted. No compromises.

Absolutely stunning - one of my favorites. It was dubbed the 'garage door' by a fellow wis.

Huge congratulations to you! So I guess I wasn’t the only one lurking around seeking one of these. All of your reasons for picking it up ring true with me. I hope to have one sooner rather than later. Kind of waiting to see what happens with the economy this winter. The watch looks awesome! Enjoy it, my friend.

Respect!!!
No bitching and moaning about overpaying, inflated market prices, AD "love", etc.

Just a collector that knows what he wants and makes it happen!
Congrats and enjoy!
Nice piece indeed

Congratulations! White dial is my favorite. Funny about the garage door.

Also, congratulations about paring down your collection. Wish I could do that other than losing them. Having more watches than one can appreciate can be a burden. Stuff, so much stuff.

Have fun with your 5711.

Out of curiosity why are you thinning out your rolex collection? What pieces have you moved?

Congratulations. Really great watch. Forget about the ridiculous garage door thing, as this has long been forgotten in favor of the classy ‘piano dial’ nickname, which imho more appropriately describes this beauty. This watch has cool dial color nuances, especially for the ivory hues. The white dial 5711 along with the 5712/1A make up for the best Nautilus duo ever, modern and vintage included.

Nice! I love it!

Thanks to everyone and their warm wishes. Really appreciate it. Figured I'd do kind of a blanket thanks and then individually answer some of the other stuff.
