Suggestions for 1st Pan and probably only

I like the nondate base oriented models and think I want 44mm. I don’t need date and would prefer to stay under 6k. I like the small seconds but do not necessarily need. Hand wound is fine especially if it saves some thickness although automatic is on the table as well if not overly thick.

I have 8 inch wrist but still don’t want to go above 44.
Suggestions for available models that fit this criteria?

000 and 112.

Nothing fancy. Very basic. A workhorse and will not fail you. Even if it does, ETA means easy and cheap repairs and servicing.

A 176 if you like titanium. Otherwise everything is the same as a 112.

I would look at the 111, 112 or the 176. All cool and have the Panerai DNA. Get ready for the strap game also.

This is the answer. Base or sub-seconds only models at 44mm generally only come on the standard modern Luminor case. The Luminor 1950 cases tend to be automatic and come with a date. I'd recommend looking at these earlier models. The P5000 movement that comes in all the "8 Day" models these days tends to run fast when fully wound. I have a PAM563 and have this issue.

I’m adding one model that’s less common but still obtainable within budget..pam 219

It’s a base like 112 but with the crown at 9 instead of 3

Anyone with experience buying from grey market dealers? I found one through Chrono 24 with good reviews offering a very good price on a 424 but just curious

you already have your choices worked out for if you want a no-date base 44mm.

Ask yourself these questions:

- SS (all polished) or titanium (all brushed)
- 3 days or 8 days PR
- ETA or inhouse (8 days has inhouse only) movement
- snap caseback / springbars or screwdown caseback / screw lugs (please say screwdown caseback and screw lugs, haha)

I Love the Panerai 111 it is my first Panerai as well. And imo one of the best models they’ve ever produced in the classic old school manner. If you’re interested I may be willing to part ways with mine to get into something else, I have box and papers and super clean.

Just to add a bit of flavor, maybe go for one of the boutique specials. They have the torpedo logo on the dial in a very discreet way but it sure adds some charm.

The Firenze edition is the coolest imo, but there are many versions.

The PAM 111 w/ the sandwich dial would be my choice.

I’ve had several Panerai’s at one time or another.
I just have this Pam510 8 Days now. I think it covers all the bases for Panerai. Easy to own and live with especially in a rotation.
