A Rolex service case has a 44x... serial number. There is some discussion regarding a range of serial numbers in the 4xx...., but most agree that 44x... are absolutely service cases.

Would this be able to be filled and filed down?

Or will this require a new case?

some case got pitting in the case back near the threaded area and is affecting the integrity of a watch being waterproof.. so bad that the O ring can only minimise seepage... is this condition common for a 30 yr old watch. i did came across some red sub pics and some of the pics in the back case shows this sign internally

As Mailman says, let Dalton give it a shot. He's shown us pics worse than that he was able to repair.

but anyhow.. does recasing take any value off a vintage watch?
or does it add value to it? since the watch should be in a greater condition then before...

It typically reduces the value of a vintage piece. There will always be a disclaimer 'replacement case'....

Collectors want a watch as original as possible.

having said that, there goes the condition...not easy to find or see one that is in original state and in good condition. If you ever did,the price is gonna be very high..

But seriously does it bothers op if its a service case, hand or even the dial? For me, as long as they original i'm okay...
