incoming IWC Big Pilot 43

Picked this one up last week. Have always wanted a Big Pilot, they launched the year after I started collecting watches. Couldn’t pull it off though.
I have read a lot about it being an upsized Mark rather than a downsized Big Pilot. Understand the point but when you wear it you think Big Pilot, mainly I think because of the onion crown.
I went for the black dial as it’s traditional for a pilots watch and the contrast between the black and the white makes me smile.
My wrist is around 16.75cm if you are interested. Wears nice, a little bit smaller than my bathyscaphe that I had on when I picked this one up.
Clasp is a bit of a pain to open but that should slacken with time. It’s the same clasp as my Portuguese which is fine.
Very happy with it folks and worth a look if you have a medium sized wrist and like a pilots watch.

Very nice! No lug overhang! Iconic case design and dial…. I always wanted a “medium” pilot but with the 7 days PR.

Looks great on your wrist

awesome. for the quick release are the spring bars unique or is the release mechanism just related to the strap

The mechanism is in the strap, not the spring bar. Looks a very normal spring bar.

I love the simple dial, for me it works. However I did think they could have still put a 7 day movement in there, even if they didn't put the indicator on the dial. The size wouldn't have been an issue as they have a 7 day movement in a 42mm Portuguese Automatic.
In the end I think it came down to cost. They wanted a £3k price difference between this one and the Big Pilot.
