Incoming: IWC Pilot's Chronograph (new model)

Picked up this beauty yesterday. Had my eye on a pilot's chrono for a while now, and I decided to pull the trigger due to the improvements of the new model. My AD is replacing the nicked blue strap with a brown one.

The new model retains the look of the old one, but the dimensions are smaller. It’s 41 mm v 43, and, more importantly, it’s a millimeter thinner. It also comes equipped with an in-house IWC movement and see-through caseback.

My two favorite improvements, though, are probably the increased water resistance (100m) and the new strap change system. I can switch out straps now in less than a minute. These enhancements really increase the versatility of the watch, especially because I like to rotate straps. I put it on a black leather nato today.

I think it rounds out my three piece collection nicely. I am on the list to (eventually) receive a blue dial VC Overseas, but until that comes, this scratches my itch for blue nicely.

Beautiful watch, congrats!!!

I've been having the same thoughts you did. I really want to add a pilot chrono to my collection and this watch is at the top of the list (although I think I'm going green dial)

Watch for my incoming thread soon

Thanks! The green dial version is stunning. Frankly, that probably what I would have gone with but for my Moser.

Congratulations! Looks great. Is the dial lume on the numerals, or just on the 3,6,9,12 markers?

Always like these from IWC, and it’s nicer now that it’s a bit smaller.

How does the strap change system work?

And what happened to the blue strap?!

Just the 3, 6, 9, 12, unfortunately. My one gripe with the watch. It does have a lot of lume, though.

There’s a button on the back of the strap. Press it and it detaches. It reattaches by clicking back into place.

No idea what happened to the strap, haha.

That’s really nice. Does it make using a custom strap difficult?

Not at all. The best part of the system is it leaves the springbar on the watch, meaning it’s super easy to put the watch on natos, custom straps, etc. 20mm lug width, too.

I own a blue dial Panerai and that’s making me lean towards the green.

Good question, haha. Probably. They are very different watches, and blue is my favorite color.

That exact model may be my favorite Panerai. That and a green dial IWC Pilot’s Chrono would be a killer pair.

Wow the new smaller IWC pilot & the blue 42mm Luminor - both exceptional choices. Congrats! The Panerai Due has the same mechanism for detaching the strap, maybe a Richemont thing, though they jacked the prices of those straps beyond reason.
