GS Winding Feel
Picked up my first GS recently (SBGA211) and have been really loving it. But, I have a question for you guys. I took it off and it wound down, so I went to wind it up. The feel of the wind on it seems a bit harsh to me. I'm used to Omega/Rolex having a smooth quiet wind. Is this normal for the GS/Spring Drive movements?

Mine is super ultra smooth. A bit different than my Submariner, which has more resistance/feedback.

Do you have a GS with a spring drive or hi-beat movement? If latter then I would expect winding to be smooth.

The spring drive winding feels like a zipper.

Interesting, thanks. I wonder if there’s any difference in spring drive movements between references.

I feel like all the ones I have wind like those old wind up toys that come with cereal when I was young....
The only exception is the manual wind movement 9r31 winds much better in my hands |

Yes the winding feels very mechanical…but the smooth seconds hand makes all my other mechanical watches seem cheap in comparison. :)

Bought a spring drive SBGA401 a couple of months ago - not for me but for my father. He's not very active and so has needed to hand wind it from time to time. He doesn't grumble (last few decades of watches have all been quartz so doesn't have a reference point) but when I was showing him how it worked etc it did seem pretty rough and hard going to me as I wound it, and likewise the 'golden snowflake' I tried in the boutique. |

My SBGY003 with the 9R31 Spring Drive winds very smoothly. IMO - the feel and sound is very Patek-like.

Snowflake owner here, and the winding feels squeaky and definitely not as smooth as my Rolex & Omega. With that said its my 4th GS and all the spring drives felt about the same so I'd say its 'relatively normal'.
