Enjoyed a bottle of Shiraz with a mate on Friday so something a bit lighter this evening.
This NZ Pinot from Central Otago N.Z. gets described with mentions of Cherry and Strawberry.
This is a 2017 and I think most wine improves with a little bit of time.
Pinot isn't always to my taste - often tastes a bit "green & stalky" to me, and maybe a bit acidic.
I enjoyed this one however. It had a couple of hours to breathe and wasn't as cold as they recommend - 12 degrees - but it was a nice fruity fresh wine.

Off tomorrow so champagne tonight. Usually, don’t care much for sparkling wine, but this is delicious!

Simply...The Wine Thread *(A Great Red Blend!)*

I've mentioned this Red Blend before and it is a very drinkable wine. It's $50 a bottle on the winery website. We have been wine club members for years and usually get it for $35-$40. I saw about 10 cases at CostCo today for $19.99 - $5 Instant Savings = ONLY $14.99 a bottle! Give it a Try and let me know what you think.

2016 Sebastiani Gravel Bed Red, Sonoma County

Harmonious expression of the gravely vineyard from a warmer vintage. Dominated with peppery spice, currant, cherry, and coconut on the nose. Smooth entry loaded with blackberry, underbrush, raspberry and black tea flavors.

Ratings
91 Points - Wine & Spirits - This is a brisk cabernet sauvignon (79 percent) blended with merlot and malbec. Its cool tannins carry a dark, resinous herb character, providing a zesty counterpoint to the lush fruit sweetness. The texture is full and mellow, enlivened by fresh mineral acidity that provides a sandstone-like abrasion to the finish. Pour it with pork rillettes or other charcuterie.

Winemaker Notes
Our 2016 Gravel Bed Red is a harmonious expression of the gravely vineyard sites from a warmer vintage. Deep ruby with purple hues, this wine is dominated with peppery spice, currant, cherry, and coconut on the nose. The entry is smooth and loaded with blackberry, underbrush, raspberry and black tea flavors. The nice structure is framed by elegant tannins leading to the lingering finish.

Composition
79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 3% Malbec

PS: If you have a chance make sure to try the Sebastiani Cherryblock, Cabernet Sauvignon It's FANTASTIC!!!

A cheap Rose that really suits my palate.
I don't enjoy most of the current crop of Roses which are much too dry for my taste.
I see Rose as an "easy-drinking quaffer" - suitable for drinking on the verandah on a warm afternoon.
I don't want something with pretensions to being a "snob wine".
I have been drinking Rose styles since 1970 and this is what I like.

That label made me laugh being a local to Paso Robles. Dont ever visit Tower road if you are ever in the area, it has to be the most pot holed road in all of Paso Robles, it is at the end of the Paso Robles airport runway and is near a homeless camp.
Its cheap land and quite a few big wineries have vineyards out there but its far from romantic. Why they are promoting those vineyards is beyond me.

Thanks for the tip. I actually, found the wine to be pretty good for a sub $20 bottle. Wouldn’t have known about the specific location though…..

Last night's bottle. Fantastic wine for a $20 Costco purchase! Would have paid a lot more for this one. 20210815_180954.jpg

My last bottle of the 2009 Blue Pyrenees Cab Sav. It comes from the Pyrenees Region in Victoria, Australia.
This is a very powerful and intense wine that really wakes-up the taste buds.
It has had 2 hours to breathe and is only really opening up now.
Table wine - sure - and would go best with the rare eye fillet I had yesterday when my Wife and I celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary with friends at a local Bistro.
I am quaffing it while I cook this evening, so maybe not being optimally applied.

I love Austin Hope, always consistent! I’ll have to keep an eye out for the Scarlett, I don’t think I’ve seen that one before.

Icon19 Interesting read...

From Screaming Eagle to Sine Qua Non, The History of Cult Wines in the U.S.

"... Waitlists  are the norm for cult wines.

But what is a “cult wine,” exactly?

While some winemakers dislike the term, it has come to encapsulate three main things: scarcity, high prices and quality. Many consider Napa Valley the birthplace of the cult wine phenomenon, and so its most famous grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, comprises many of the world’s most sought-after cult wines. However, there are cult wines made from other grapes and in other regions around the world..."
