I believe it’s more about a collaboration with the manufacturer on a watch design or aesthetic that Hodinkee knows would appeal to their readers. Not exactly watch making from scratch. Just a variant of an existing model.

And I don’t want to come off as a Hodinkee fanboy. While I do immensely enjoy some of their content, I’ve never purchased anything from them. Though I would have picked up their version the Oris Sixty-five if I didn’t already own one.

Maybe...I bought a hodinkee seiko alpinist which I was happy with but could seiko have made a blue dial instead of a gimmicky colab with hodinkee? I probably would have preferred that vs a hodinkee version of a seiko.

I sure hope rolex patek and RM doesn’t do this. Otherwise I might have to find another obsession.

Wow it's Hodinkee and not an Apple watch? No wonder Stephen and Cara have to wear Apple watches when they're being priced out of these collaborations lol

I see nothing wrong with the price the movement is outstanding. I just don't care for the trip as I travel with family not watch nerds and I could pony up a few k more and get a Patek 5170 or datograph.

Same price point SS Lange Chrono with trip to manufacturer...hmm lol buy buy buy

+1. It's actually worth the price. This is my least favorite iteration though. The original green and the salmon are more appealing to me.

Price seems reasonable to me. And the trip if it’s a business class flight would be interesting if you’ve never been to a watch manufacture before. I’m not buying one.

So now Hodinkee is in the travel business? Did they just cut a deal to buy out Thomas Cook?

Thread idea: show us what a Hodinkee Airlines plane would look like.

It’s a limited edition airplane.

I completely agree. :D

That said, I'd want this watch more if it was in Montblanc's bronze case.

It came out yesterday. Limited ed of 25 pieces but with a high price tag justified by adding a custom trip to Montblanc’s manufacture.

Seems reasonable. Although I’m not much of a MB watch fan.

(Just don’t tell them the company’s namesake glacier won’t be around next year)

If NPR was suddenly doing this kind of stuff, then we can start a serious discussion about maintaining journalistic integrity.

Well said . +1 on everything you mention. Just to add, at least their collabs are enthusiast focused with vintage sizes, no date window execution, interesting dial colors etc.

The regular price is as much as this HODINKEE collab.

Now that you mentioned it, you are indeed correct. As you can see I do not follow the brand much but do follow Hodinkee. I am certain (and hopeful) the 25 buyers purchased them because they love the piece first and foremost and two, they will meet fellow enthusiasts including Hodinkee team visiting the Villeret for 3 days.
