My new Seiko 5 SRPD71K1 arrived today

Bought this from a retailer in Spain with a 10% discount and free shipping to the USA. Waited 4 weeks.

Immediately loved, when I saw it, the vintage feel with the dulled navy blue, yellowed lume, old font script “Automatic” and mesh straight end link bracelet. We all know no screw down crown.

Fit and finish is excellent. Overall very nice construction, contrasting finishes, tight bezel with zero wiggle, and beefy strap. The red accent on the second hand is a nice touch. Nice depth to the dial with the white inner bezel. It’s not a heavy watch like the true 200m divers despite it’s rugged look.

If I were to be a ball buster I would have liked to see sharper case lines where the lugs meet the sides. But not a huge deal.

Enjoy the reveal.

EDIT: WTF Crapatalk put the pictures backwards! Sorry

I was looking at the new Seiko 5's since they discontinued the SKX line of watches, this looks like the one that will replace them. Be interested to see how the new movement performs compared to the outgoing 7S26

The 4R36 is a workhorse for Seiko

Hmm. That’s a pretty sharp looking watch. The thing that always held me back from the SKX line was no hacking/handwinding. This solves that...

I think it looks great! Enjoy in good health.

For those who want a screw down crown, there’s aftermarket cases you can buy. You could probably pick up a new case, new crown, new stem and be in business — with all these great new dials, movements, etc.

Thanks fellas Lots of variants of this model to choose from.

A screw down crown would have been cool, but it's not a dive watch. The hand winding ability and hack feature is very nice to have and an upgrade over the SKX in my opinion.

Nice balance and feel on the wrist. I bought a khaki Toxic NATO for it last night.

Thanks fellas. Enjoyable to wear. Movement features a big plus. Would have liked a true diver in this new reference, but, hey, not the end of the world. There's always the SRP line for that.

Thanks to you fellas as well. I was going to get the green version of this reference but it was too olive colored for me. Sorta reminded me over overcooked green beans They have a nice vintage reddish version which is cool.

I have a khaki NATO from Toxic coming for mine. Change it up a bit. Exposed pin holes on sides of case so swapping should be a breeze.

I like the red. I think I like most of the models. I am looking forward to seeing these watches in person.

Nice looking watch. I like the mesh bracelet. It seems like it'd be comfortable. Congratulations and enjoy

It you put a little back pressure on the crown of an SKX, the movement will hack.

You could probably still find a brand new skx without looking too hard
