Ever get a compliment on your watch?

I’ve owned a Hulk since 2011 and have worn it almost every single day since.

It was in for an adjustment at RSC which took a few weeks, and I didn’t want to be watch-less so I bought a pre owned Breitling Super Ocean Chronograph from a member on a Canadian watch forum at an absolute steal, $1500 CAD to be exact! Not too much more than what the service cost would be for my Hulk!

I’ve owned it for less than 6 months and have gotten no less than 10 compliments on it, including from a CEO of a large insurance company. The reason why I’m mentioning this is because in 8 years of Hulk ownership I haven’t gotten even 1 compliment, not a single one.

So my question, do you guys ever get compliments on your SS Rolex watches? And how does this compare to different brands in your collection?

Funny you mention the Hulk, because when I bought mine I walked to a clothing store and the kid working there said something like "wow nice watch!". This was probably 10 min after I left the AD.

I was ordering pizza once and the guy behind the counter said nice Sub. I thanked him and left with my pizza. My Squale maxi dial gets mistaken all the time for my Sub when I’m at work.

I received a compliment on my TT CHNR the other day, but the guy was wearing a 16610 so no surprise there.
For the most part I receive more compliments in Asia then I do in the US.

I’ve worn a sub in one form or another for 16 years. I think there have been two times that I remember where someone made a comment. (Who wasn’t a friend, or an AD).

Just the way I like it.

I wore a 16610 Sub for 15 years and I think the total number of compliments was 2! Nothing yet on the DB

What? Was that necessary?

OP tells a quick anecdote about how he was complimented on his watch, and this is the reply?

Come on...

I’m a young guy working in tech in NYC. Get a lot of compliments in the office but rarely outside of that.

Funny, I have had similar experience ...

I've received more compliments in 2 years of owning this Panerai than I have in 30 years of owning various Rolex references....

I too own a Hulk. My wife and I splurged one weekend and went to a really nice resort for spa time. One of the college summer towel boys walked by and stopped. "Dude, that watch is awesome! One day I want one of those!".

I had a guy at work comment on it.."Nice watch. What kind is that?" When I told him it was a Rolex, he was in disbelief.

I have gotten a few comments on my BLRO though.

Ever get a compliment on your watch?

I got a complement on my Hulk today and I never ever get watch complements.

I took my kids on a Superhero cruise. So of course I had to wear the Hulk. Someone noticed and complemented the connection.

Only compliment I received on my former (wish I still had) hulk was from sales lady in Tiffany. She commented “nice watch, I just got one for my finance but had to wait 9 months”. I was like “what, that’s ridiculous”. At that time, I hadn’t been following the industry trends, so that comment seemed bizarre to me. That was about 18 months ago.

I got more compliments on my Nixon watches than I have on my GMT II. I’ve had my Rolex much shorter but I would get compliments very frequently with the Nixon’s in college.

My guess is that they were styled to that age group so they were more drawn to them than the “adult” crowd that appreciates Rolex’s and doesn’t speak up about it. But what do I know.

I think the lesson we have learned here is that money pit watches pull in the comments. The timeless nature of the Rolex keeps it just under the radar.

If you want comments on a watch, just walk into an AD wearing a Daytona 500C or jubilee BLRO.

The only watch I’ve ever been complimented on is a $50 Fossil quartz watch I had a million years ago. The guy in the pro shop at the golf course would always ask to buy it from me.... no idea why.

It was great walking into the AD with my BLRO. Instant cred!

PS, going to steal the red and blue colors in your signature. They look better than the regular blue and red I used!

The moral of the story here is that fashion watches appeal to a lot of people so people compliment them. Personally, there are plenty of fashion watches I love the look of. Many so I like way more than most Patek watches (gasp!).

Sure. Every morning I flex shirtless in-front of a mirror, blow myself a kiss and say, "Nice watch you sexy bi**h!"

In reality, a very small handful of times ever.

Come on...
Seems to be the new norm on TRF these days unfortunately. Plenty of unnecessary, and ungentlemanly, slap downs and snide remarks.

Almost like most car forums.

As a generalisation, mostly from relatively new members :)

Flame suit on

I've only ever had a couple of people notice (read: COMMENT about) my Rolexes.

My Movado? Countless compliments over the years.
