@dannyr1986 - have been following the MK1 vs MK2 thread - mine is an MK1 (Swiss Made - no crown)

So now they have released the MK2 dial of the SD43 making the original dial a limited 1 year run. What do you guys think? Will it make a difference to collectibility in the future or no big deal?

If you had an option to buy a MK1 or MK2, which one would you go for?

I have the MK1 which is definitely what I will keep as it is now classed as a limited edition 1 year run.

I think it is definitely is a game changer. Rolex doesn’t do too many things on accident. I am sure they knew before they released the SD50 that there would be a dial change in 18. some will argue, it’s been a few months into 18, but at the slow pace of Rolex releases this seems pretty on par with their schedule for a year. My AD said he Received two in 17. The first being in August and he really did not start seeing them more consistently until March Of this year.

Time will tell for sure. Pun intended. To me I believe this seemingly minor eccentricity is definitely a wink from Rolex. Especially since the introduction of random serial numbers, and the fact that Rolex usually would not want people to know what year watches are produced , they had to know the lack of a crown would be the only way to identify this one year model.

So do we now call the limited 1 year run with no crow the SD50 and the later MK2 models with crown the SD43? Thinking

I think SD43 original, and SD43 unoriginal.

Oh that's going to piss someone off!

SD43 for either is sufficient. Only if selling would the mk1 v mk2 make a difference. In the eye of buyers/collectors.

Seems to make sense, but I think if you pay what Rolex wants for one you can call it whatever you want.
