Watch Winder Question
Do watch winders put wear and tear on a watch? Is it better to let let run down and reset when you want to wear them?

If you're only going to wear the watch a few times a year, no need to have it on a winder year round. Set it for the few times you wear it and let it wear down. If you plan on wearing it at least once a week, it is worth having it on a winder. A winder would inflict less "wear and tear" than would pulling the pin out and setting it often. |

I've never seen the point of a watch winder, unless you have a perpetual calender.
Wear it, take it off and if it stops wind it and reset it. |

I would assume that a watch at rest would have less gear wear than one that is constantly in motion.
IMHO winders are a convenience, and the price of that convenience is shorter service intervals.

Only puts wear and tear on a watch if you don't use it!

Have to entirely agree with you 100% and many of the winders today are very expensive for what they are.Great to look at on the outside to justify the high price but many have some very cheaply mass produced insides.

Yeah.. I'd love to have a sparta winder.. but how do I justify forking out 600 bucks for a dual winder! Especially since I may stop using it after a couple of months :)

You can find duals on ebay for less then $100 which IMO is what they are worth parts wise.

A watch winder will only put wear and tear on a watch. As I said earlier if you have a perpetual calender then it makes some sense. If you don't then having it running 24/7 on a winder will, as sakuraba said" winders are a convenience, and the price of that convenience is shorter service intervals"
