Incoming AP! (it’s blue!)

After having my deposit canceled by another AD (owner decided to sell at markup and the salesperson resigned due to all the shadyness - I’ll write about that later), I received the text from my other AD that they have an allocation on the way and it’s mine if I wanted it!

Had to think about it for a good hour or so, since I’d just bought a grey 15500 and the two are very similar. But the SA convinced me to not pass on the opportunity, so here it is!

Thrilled and feeling very blessed to have such a great AD. Also received a nice AP polo and hat!

The blue shimmers and changes hue based on light. Here is comparison next to the 15500.

I like it quite a bit more than the 15500. 41mm looks bare and empty, 15400 already suffered from that and the 15500 emphasized it even more. If you cannot get the 15202 or need to have a date/second hand and new, 15450 is it.

Congrats! Looks great. I think 15500 will go the way of DJ/DDII due to thick indices and overall empty design. The 15400/15450 look more refined to me.

Yes I agree, like this a lot more than my 15500. I think the new 4302 is nicer to look at, but from the dial side, I find the 15450 much more balanced, in particular:
- the lume plot at 3’clock adds symmetry
- the longer hour markers is better proportioned
- at first I was glad they removed the Automatic text at 6’clock, but came to realized it made the dial a bit “empty” on the bottom

I like more on the 15500:
- the raised edge ring adds a nice dimensional pop to the dial
- the new seconds hand with the open end
- 4302 movement
- the font used for the date wheel

Both great but if I had to choose, a I think the 15450 blue will get a lot more wrist time.

Time will tell, but I think it’s the natural evolution to the line

I expressed my interest to this AD about 1 month ago, no deposits. Apparently once the watch is in transit from AP, they get notified of the serial # and know for sure it’s coming. Got the call, paid in full and got the serial on the receipt, then the watch came in 2 weeks later.

Congrats! That's a beuitifal AP, indeed. :)

Problem I have with you posting these images, is that you just made my decision making even more difficult.

I have my name down for the 15500. But earlier this week I visited the AP boutique for an update, and at the same time I decided to try on a 15451 (just to get the feeling of 37mm, since they didn't have a 15450 in stock...). I must confess, I'm really torn now. I also like the dial on the 15450 much more than the 15500. However, I do think that the dial might be a bit on the small-ish side. I don't have a "big" wrist though, measuring 7" (but flat) so for me the 15450 actually sits better on the wrist.

I know it's different for everyone, how we are built, etc. But do you mind telling me your wrist size? Also, how do you feel when it comes to wearing the 15500 vs the 15450? Do you recognise any of the things I mentioned above regarding the dial feeling a bit "small"?

Cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe, my wrist is 6.7 and I don’t think the 15450 wears small at all. The dial may at first appear small but I think that’s because the watch is thicker than most 37.5mm watch (it’s marketed as 37 but actually 37.5).

Next to a 116500 or 14060 it’s about the same size, and the links are the same 1.6mm width as your typical 40mm Rolex. I like it a lot, more than my 15500 but both are great. If I were to be offered a blue 15500, then I think the decision will be tougher, but between a blue 15450 vs a grey 15500, it’s an easy choice right now.

Also have my name down for a 15500. My first AP. But that 15450 Blue is a timepiece fallen out of the blue sky.

Is the 15450 blue dial still a boutique exclusive?

At least no mentioning of this on the AP website = they do mention when it is a boutique exclusive watch e.g. the 15202.

Cheers,
Joe

Incoming AP! (it’s blue!)

I think it started out as boutique exclusive but AP has a history of sending extra allocation to ADs. At the moment the 15450 blue is not boutique exclusive.

By the way, AP In Vegas (Palazzo) just received a blue 15450 but you need to bundle with a non-steel RO. My contact there just texted me it’s in stock. Good luck and potentially good deal if anyone here is interested.

Agreed. I like 'em both ... we are just talking subtle things and preferences. Funny the things you mention as positives are what throw me off on the 500.

If you like the 4302 better then here's some eye candy (10:1 scale if I remember correctly) ... Me, I still prefer the 3120 ... I don't find the 4302 visually very appealing, plus the 3120 is technically harder to produce and regulate.
