Things you didnt know about Rolex that you learned recently

I had no idea that the hands of the DSSD were curved to keep them from looking black through the extra-thick domed crystal.

"The hands are slightly curved and, therefore, don’t appear black, as some at hands do. "

Found while reading this article: https://www.watchtime.com/featured/r...84547888326074

What new things have you learned about rolex within like the last 6 months to a year?

Ived owned a Rolex since 2002 and never knew about the laser engraved micro crown on the crystal until joining here a few weeks back. I found it on my new watch then to my surprise, it was hiding on my old watch all along.

easier to see it if you look from the sides rather than straight ahead at it. Some people shine a flashlight to illuminate the etching.

also: fun fact - when they replaced the crystals they used to have a tiny little R next to the crown on the crystal but stopped doing this a few years ago. I guess people complained.

Learned last week: My 1625 has Datejust on the dial, but whilst the case is 36mm, the dial is in fact smaller than a standard Datejust, the plexi is the same size as the 15xx series to accommodate the bezel and for the same reason the crown is smaller. (Happy to be corrected if any of these facts are wrong).

You learn alot from handling the watches, finding the smaller details and researching based on interest. Just wish that the watches were available in a physical format and not pictures solely

sorry, late to the game but finally realized the YM2 had flyback capability. Pretty cool complication.

I learned that: (the FAT part ;) )

"For the past four decades, Rolex SA has been supporting trailblazing scientists and explorers through its Awards for Enterprise. This year it’s letting the rest of us help choose the recipients."

Quote from this article: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-public-voting

You can learn more about the finalists, and vote - here: https://www.rolex.org/en/rolex-awards/finalists

I recently learned the 16710 GMT II and 16610 Submariner stainless steel bezels are the same and interchangeable.

You will find that it is an S rather than an R, standing for Service.

My 2002 GMT had the crystal replaced in 2008 the LEC has the S in it.

I learned recently that the 9 on the subdial of the Daytona is not symmetrical to the dial it's a little above the 9 oclock index and looks odd to me, hard to explain better than that see for yourself, it really surprised me!

80% of the gold they use comes from Canada the other 20% comes from Finland.

Absolutely true. My DJ41 bought at my regular AD concerned me the first time I set it!
Despite some "propaganda-type" info, the 3235 is a robust and accurate mvt.

It's not that the 9 on the subdial is not symmetrical, it's just that the two top subdials aren't set along the exact center of the dial, they're shifted up from center a little bit.

Yes, that is what it is. The 3 and 6 subdials are floating a bit above the small indices.

I was also going to add that the DJ41 sets time counter-clockwise. Very weird!
