Day-Date 36mm 1803

Would you wear the Day-Date 1803 ? Has it become too dated ? They’re going for a really decent price pre owned , or would you save for a more modern reference ? This white dial with roman numerals I think is a great looking watch . How about the 18038 ? Green dial is a beauty .

If it comes with a good price and good condition, I will get it....its look and appearance exactly the same as the newer 18238 model....

I'd personally wear it as a formal piece, but I have smallish 6.75" wrists. I wouldn't wear it as a day-to-day watch at that size.

But that's just me, and just a size concern. If you're happy with the size on your wrist, then go for it. It's not like the modern version looks meaningfully different.

Going to view a 1803 white dial today , £7k not a bad price looks in good condition I’ll see how it goes

I have owned one and sold it. I didn’t have a problem with the looks or size, but the non quickest was a real pain.

Wouldn't be able to do it. Lack of quick set is a non starter for me. 36mm is the classic DD size but I think 40mm is much better on the wrist.

How has the 1803 become dated? Are you referring to the lack of quick date and day changing? I inherited one, and I think it looks as good as a modern watch (I had mine serviced after I received it, and it still shines brightly). It represents the best of its time period.

for the 18038, as long as its on bracelet and the bracelet is in good condition and a good deal i would, otherwise i'd prefer a 18238 if going vintage. not sure if i'd go with a 1803 though

If your only concern is the 1803 looking dated, I think that is a complete non-issue. 99.6% of the world will never see any difference between an 1803 and a current 36mm DD. There is a reason the 180x is considered the classic DD model, and I wear my 180x models regularly (7.25 inch wrist).

To me, Rolex creating the 40mm actually helped the 36mm - Now the 36mm looks just a skosh understated by comparison, occupying a perfect middle ground between subtlety and Rolex flash.

(Also worth noting that, even if you don’t want to wear it daily nor solve it with a winder, the 180x’s non-quickset is only half the issue you may think. It does not require advancing it 24 hours for each day, only back to 6pm and forward to 12.)

For better or worse, it is the only available option for someone like me who has the following fetishes: 1) tall “top-hat” acrylic crystal, 2) pie-pan dial, 3) micro-adjustment clasp (I hate the concealed), and 4) wideboy indices and hands.

The DD has changed less than the sub since they were first introduced. The quick settings of newer models would be great but I could live with that.
A DD is a DD. Great watch.

Excellent watch, but not having the quicksets is a pain. I also like the hidden clasp better.

The Daydate 1803 is an amazing watch

It's the iconic Rolex flagship with a timless design with a great 36mm size.....nothing about it is outdated (minus conveniences of modern movements).

Dated? It is a stunning watch with the beautiful 'pie pan' dial that the DateJust and DayDate of that era has. A true classic.
