Hello I have a Submariner from the 1980's and will be traveling through Germany, Switzerland this fall and would like to have it serviced. Bracelet needs major repairs or replacement but watch still running well.

would be grateful for good recommendations

RSC is a always a good option, especially since you're considering buying a new bracelet. There's one in Cologne Germany and Gevena.

In Germany they will force you to change the dial.
No tritium allowed

If you are going to be on the move, you might not have sufficient time to get it serviced - why not get it done with a RSC before you go on your trip?

In short it says that all tritium dials must be replaced with a super luminova dial or no service can be done. Customer to be informed before hand.
They don't deviate from the rules in Koln.

Perhaps your friends Sub had been fitted with a service dial already

and theres me thinking that my 1968 radium dial was switch out with a tritium dial as it was deemed to be safe. so is it now the case that all Rolex watches with tritium and radium dials requiring a service via RSC will have to be switched out prior to carrying out a service???

Only in Germany. Must be some weird German law.

I'd send it to Rolliworks prior to your trip. They can properly service it and tighten the bracelet. Good luck and safe travels!!

I wouldn't have my watch serviced while on vacation or abroad. If it needed a back-ordered part or something takes longer than expected it could get messy and leaves the owner in a precarious position. Plenty of good options state-side.
