Anybody had centre links polished on SS Sky Dweller? Is it a crime?

I’m not the type to celebrate a scratch on my watches. It happens, I accept it and move on.

Has anybody had experience with having the centre links brushed on one of their bracelets? Did it end up being a good idea in your view?

I’ve been eyeing off one of my Sky Dwellers for the makeover. There’s nobody I know in Australia that’s well regarded for these kinds of mods.

1. Will Rolex throw an unnecessary fit if the watch requires a warranty repair? I’ve read that RSC would return it to polished.

2. If you have any images of the brushed version, I’d appreciate it. A Sky Dweller would be great to see. I’ve found a few - maybe a Sub bracelet in the pics. (None are mine)

Is this the Rolex version of painting over a Picasso??

Brushing a bracelet is nothing else than scratching it up.
It’s an easy DIY and any watchmaker can reverse it.
I don’t think it looks good on the Sky with its fluted bezel.

While not a crime, Rolex puts you on a black list in Geneva, forbidding any AD from selling you another Rolex if you tamper with any part of the watch, including the bracelet.

Just kidding! If it’s the look you are going for, go for it ! For me, having a fully brushed bracelet w a fluted bezel would be a no go aesthetically.

Thanks JR16. You may be right I suspect. I’m not approaching it lightly.

I can see this for some sports watches if you want a more vintage tool watch look, but a skyD? This is essentially a dress watch?

I just think the end result would look a bit weird.

However, your watch and your hard earned cash paying for it, so post pics if you do it :)

I find that I currently take it off when not wearing a suit. Want to use it in more versatile ways and look less ‘dressy’. Fair points you make.

Your title is wrong then .

Rather sell it than having the centre links brushed on a SkyD .
Will be much easier to just have the centre links re-polished when there are scratches .

Keep it as is .

Thank you. Yes even with re-edit, you can’t change title.

Sounds like this may not be the watch to re-engineer!

No,would definitely not screw around with modifying a SKyD .Did you think doing it to the white dial ?

Yeah I did. The blue does it’s job perfectly.

The Jubilee on BLRO can take anything and I thought there may be room for a less glossy, more knockabout Sky D. I bashed it on one on the exposed metal tubing lengths inside an aeroplane. I figured...brush it. But maybe not. A cultural crime...

The WG bezel will most likely take the knocks not the polished links.

The TRF Hit Squad is watching ,you will be sent to Alice Springs..without water

Based on some of the early posts, I’m already checking out the window.

Thanks for your good advice.

For my 2 cents, it is your watch and do what ever makes you happy. Here is another 2 cents , your watch is original only once and each time you polish, or modify you can greatly effect the value if you were ever to sell it.

Check your thread title.

Regarding brushing center links I don’t think it would like correct on a Sky D. The case is polished too.

I don't like PCL's.

All of my watches that have them, except the TT and Gold models, are brushed.

I'd personally leave it at factory setting.

If the watch is yours you can make any changes you want. Just realize that any changes you make may not be appreciated if you decide to sell the watch down the road.

As someone who also has an SS SkyD I'd say go for it - just wondering what you'd do with the somewhat rounded polished case and if that would stick out with the rest of the bracelet brushed.

It’s funny, the PCLs on the GMT bothered me initially (back in 2012, when I got my first 6digit), but as soon as I saw brushed over ones, such as in those pictures, I wouldn’t have them any other way than factory polished... The GMT looks awful with brushed center links.

I agree. My watches with PCL's all have aftermarket straps on them except for the DJ41 jubilee and the PM and TT. On the TT and PM I am ok with the PCL's.
