Hi all - longtime lurker, longtime fan of this forum (and this thread in particular). Pulled the trigger on a new 214270 mk2. Will upload a photo once I snap a good one, and figure out how to do that on this forum.

Some stray thoughts from a new owner -

1. mk2 vs mk1 - reviewed this thread to find the point at which the mk2 was introduced (April/May 2016), and gauge reactions of the Explorer crowd. Surprised to see that (at least it felt like) love for the mk1 and mk2 was evenly split (surprised in that I am very pro the mk2). But was edifying to read the anti-mk2 sentiments, and now have a better understanding.

2. rolex ss sports watch market - of course heavily discussed here - curious - do you think it's easier to get a new explorer at an AD vs. say a submariner or daytona? Feels like given demand for the respective watches it should be that way... but per ADs it actually just sounds like *any* ss sports watch is challenging to find now... felt lucky to snag one

3. bracelet comfort - shockingly comfortable, like, wow

4. 36mm vs 39mm - now have a better understanding of the preference for the 36mm - still prefer the 39mm and am perfectly happy with this watch, but given the "understated elegance" thing the explorer hits square on the head - easy to argue the 36mm is the more appropriate size (i personally like how the 39mm is a bit more in your face/stronger wrist presence, so feels sportier to me)

Welcome aloysius to the Explorer club and congrats on your new watch

For uploads you can use any free online service. I use picr.de (which of course is in german ).

I have just joined the club today after a lot of searching and decision making!! I absolutely love it.
It’s funny how the further along this watch collecting journey I go, the more love and appreciation I have for the smaller watches.
I am one happy boy!! Have a good weekend guys.

Recently can say I joined the group. I’m turning 30 in a few months and having a son next month, so this one has some meaning for me

Thank you! I hope to enjoy it for years to come. Once I tried it on I couldn’t leave without it.

Hiking near Lake Ouachita, no better watch to explore in than my Explorer.

No doubt that it’s a nice looking watch, but much like a Bronco fan on a Wrangler thread, it’s only a matter of time before the townspeople gather the pitchforks and torches to run you out of town....

Yep, it’s hard to beat the classic 36mm ExpI.

The most legible dial in the whole Rolex line up.

Clarity is unreal.

Absolute collection killer.

I have a Sub Date, DJ, Omega Seamaster & I bought the Explorer as a just another one for the collection and don’t ever take it off. It’s on me 24/7

My son wears my Sub now and I stick the Omega on sometimes if I go away for a change but the Explorer for me is unreal. Much much better in the flesh. Pics don’t do it’s beauty justice.

Dropped into my AD back in January and expressed an interest in a 214270 Mk2, and joined a waiting list. Got the call on Sunday to say the AD has one in so I’ll be travelling there on Friday to take a look. If all goes well it’ll be my first Rolex
