Try tapping the side of the case with your finger. If it run for a few seconds and then stops again, you most likely need a servicing.

As far as I'm aware, once you've manually wound it there shouldn't be any reason for it to stop again after a few seconds. It does seem to have the hallmarks of needing a service if it doesn't keep going once it's fully wound 60-70 times. How old is It, have you had it serviced before?

Even after a full manual wind at least 40 full crown turns clockwise only, some could still a swirl to just start the movement. But if it does not start then it could be a broken mainspring and watch will need a full service.

Feel your pain/frustration. My old Air-King just stopped tonight too. Off to the shop in the morning. Damn it.

looks like it will need a service, the watch is only 4 years old it doesn't get any hard use the most it get's is me typing on a keyboard.

Will I have to take it into a my local Rolex dealer with box/papers,or is it just a case of dropping it off as they will know my details?

Wow, I wasn't expecting good news so fast. I would have bet on a broken mainspring. Whew!

Now comes the hard part, figuring out what happened. The experts are here, let's all learn.

Glad to hear it's running. Nothing worse than seeing that second hand not ticking away. Happened to me with all if my auto watches.

Minor mechanical hiccup.. Hopefully. Starting, stopping, starting again and running. How strange. I must admit reading through the first couple I thought it was goosed. I was about to post as much when I got to the bottom.

I had a Z-Blue do this in March. I thought the hairspring was broken. I could feel a slight catch every 20 turns or so of the crown. It started, ran for about 4 seconds and stopped. Repeatedly.

The hairspring has come uncoupled. My AD was able to fix it with a 3 day turn around. Had the hairspring broken, it would have been sent to the RSC.
