I’ve got to agree here.

But now, I think VC has fallen off. They certainly make wonderful watches, but their relevance as go to choice in luxury just isn't what it used to be.

That's why I think Rolex has replaced VC in the HT for this era. The luxury watch market isn't focusing primarily on horological opulence any more and Rolex is clearly the most recognized and overall desirable watch brand in the world...between the general public and enthusiasts alike.
I agree, but to me, this is what that means; the criteria has been dumbed down.

Agree. I LOVE Rolex, but consider it luxury horology, not haute horology. So, imho, it's a step below PP, AP, Lange, FPJ.

This. As much as a Rolex fanboy as I am now Rolex is more then a few steps down from the big 3 when talking about horology. Rolex isn’t even in the same conversation as Jaeger Le Coultre.

Saying this Rolex walks tall on its own merits. It’s the most iconic luxury watch brand in the world. To non WIS it just might be the the best watch in the world. It’s the watch you buy when you “made it”.

Nice! It feels like its made from a solid piece of granite. It is not built for comfort--it is a race car. Very fun.
