I’d refinish it. Like getting a new watch. It’s just a material item. Wear it the way you like best.

Personally, I'd polish it. I wouldn't wear it like that.

I’m not in the “scratches add character” camp. I would get it serviced at a RSC by one of their top-notch professionals.

Does RSC laser weld platinum? Some of the gouges look pretty deep.

Platinum can be laser welded but I don't know if many RSC's would do this.

I would get it cleaned and serviced but not polished/refinished. I remember getting my SD polished with the service at the RSC in NYC and it was amazing! The watch came back looking like new.... and like every other new Rolex. It honestly didn't feel as special anymore in all its polished perfection.

If it was a random pre-owned watch, I'd get it polished. Just did that with a platinum JLC I bought, I didn't know the previous owner, I wanted to start fresh. However, if it was my father's I wouldn't change it. You can always buy a new shiny perfect platinum DD if you want, you can't ever get back that patina and history.

Looks very wabi-sabi, as it is there is most likely none like it.

Try an ultrasonic cleaning before you commit to the polishing. I’ve observed that the removal of grime can sometimes make scratches a lot less noticeable, perhaps due to the way the finish of a clean watch catches the light.
