Platinum, W/Gold...looks just like Stainless Steel

For some reason I can't justify spending thousands of dollars more on a platinum or white gold Rolex when it looks like stainless steel to the naked eye...if I'm gonna spend that kind of $$$ I'm getting Yellow Gold all day.

Btw I'm not hating on TRF members or people who own these precious metal watches, just an opinion.

If it looks like chicken but taste like steak, I couldn't tell from a distance

Gold/ plat is special for its weight and how it feels on the wrist (a certain indescribable sensation). I went with YG myself, but YG is quite loud so I understand some that want to keep it a little lower profile.

Platinum/white gold has much more shine and luster to it even with dim lights. I can kind of see where you are coming from but personally, platinum/white gold is noticeably different than stainless.

Your point is valid and completely makes sense. However, I then pose this question for you:

Are you buying the watch for yourself or for how others will perceive you?

On the flip side to what you posted, part of the beauty of getting a platinum or white gold Rolex is that nobody knows it's a precious metal. (with exception to WIS of course)

Buying gold, patinum, and silver has become my biggest source of income for my small business lately.... I can tell you that if the finish is the same, you can't visually tell the difference between white gold (that has been properly formulated), stainless and platinum. They are all identical. When buying I rely on the testing acids to tell me what is what.

A little of both I guess, if buying an YG watch your certainly are making a statement that you value on some level the perception of wealth...you can ask the same if buying a Mercedes or BMW, luxury items always will carry a perception of wealth...

I do not own a Rolex. Yet. I've read that the SS bands contain a small portion of Nickel. Because of an allergy I have to Nickel - Platinum/White Gold may be my only option.

Not at all. For example... Say I had three rings. All the same size, shape, and same exact finish. One 18k white gold, one stainless steel, one .950 platnum. Visually you would not be able to tell me what metal each one was.

Weight them. :)
But I get your point.

I would love to have smurf, only another Rolex WIZ would know it for what it is.

Wearing gold and platinum is a personal preference. As stated previously, the weight is definately noticeable, as is the fact that it makes you better looking.
I personnally love precious metal watches, but that preference obviously comes at a price. To each his own.

SS is great for a first or second Rolex watch. As time goes on you may tend to appreciate the precious metals more and aspire to work hard and save to be able to afford one. If you can afford one now but prefer SS that is great too. I would love to have a platinum DayDate!

Bad example, we're talking Rolex watches and not rings.

Say you had a SS Sub a WG DD and a Platinum DD would you not be able (visually) to tell the difference?

Don't get me wrong precious metal watches are great, but if just looking at the metal YG looks the best to me....visually it stands out among WGold or Platinum

I have never looked at these models side by side... As far as the op's point... If someone had a watch bracelet on, there is no way you would be able to tell just by looking at it on their wrist and be able to identify it as stainless, white gold, or platnum.

Well, what I told the OP previously then goes for you as well.

Personally I have no problem identifying them on the wrist as would most Rolex Wis'.
