Same way young guys nowadays, even in cities, chose a Defender over something sporty.

You never know, but it fits my 6 3/4" wrist perfectly and is a fantastic international travel watch. Fine looking too.

it's a beauty.

I liked the sky dweller until I tried it on.
Proportions are all strange and I don’t think it’s going to be popular in 20 years to be honest.

It will occupy the realm of modern classics such as the Hublot Big Bang or the Panerais of 15 years ago. When I had no money 10+ years ago, Panerai was all the rage. But it's not a true classic, only a modern classic. This isn't meant to speak poorly of the Skydweller as I quite like Panerais in particular.

Disclaimer: I own the blue...
.. and I love it..
Most complicated Rolex, best value for money in the line up by far, wonderful blue dial, real sports watch ( unlike a Patek 5711 or 15202st), real dress watch, perfect size for me
Ring command ist just such a genius move, blue is harder to get than 116500
Made of steel, robust, annual calendar with Gmt function.

This will be up there with the 5711 and 15202 in a few years time. This watch ticks all the boxes for me... and well Michael Jordan owns one ;)

Imagine what will happen if Rolex discontinues the blue Sky Dweller after five years of production.

I think that will give you an good idea on 'classic or fad'

If I ever score one, and the non-WIS thinks it's my DJ, fine by me- that's a big reason why it's on my grail list. It's also the most advanced movement Rolex makes, the only annual calendar Rolex makes, and a unique GMT complication that no one else makes.

YMMV

Not a fad, Rolex put alof of work into crafting that watch, they won't allow it to fade into oblivion.

Datejust on steroids but less easy to tell time. Complications are a sign of horology but really don't matter to me since I can't see them easily and don't use them. It's an impressive hunk of metal on the arm and it looks good when you want something with more bling and pop than a Datejust. Not a watch you can beat on like a Sub and not a true classic with history like a Daytona. Right now there is a lot of love for SS blue face watches like the 5711 and compared to that one a Skydweller is a huge bargain. Will it be a classic? I think it will always be desirable but I don't think it will be what the Daytona or the Sub are which are true Rolex classics. I do think it will hold it's value well but you won't be seeing 6 figures at auction in 10 or 20 years. So buy it if it sings to you (provided you can get one.....people always want what they can't have don't they!)

If it isn't obvious by now, any Rolex that is produce today in small numbers or difficult to get...will end up as a classic when it's canceled and in forty years everyone will want one of the thousands produced, which apparently isn't enough as the population of earth booms and we move to mars. Trust me, a blue SkyD on mars will be priceless, people won't be able to bring their GT2RS but they sure will be able to take a watch. Mark my words.

Blue dial SS is a fad at the minute. Blame Patek. Just like Pepsi is a fad. They'll always be cool even when instagrammers move onto whatever is in next year.

It’s like an ugly DJII (with similar big, awkward hour markers), “setting sun” date sub-dial, and overly complicated and poorly executed annual calendar. Having the month indicators as little tiny hashes next to the hour markers is so dumb. It’s embarrassing. Classic or fad? Neither. It’s an abomination.

It could be a classic simply because of it's unique movement.

Seems like black and white faced dials have more staying power over the long run than a colored dial.

Plus...what's the definition of a classic?

Regardless, I like the energy Rolex put behind it three years ago when they added the stainless steel models.

Beautiful watch.

Blue skydweller is as hard to get as a 5711. I guess 5711 is a fad too. Lol!

Blue skydweller is easier to get than a 5711. I was offered one and declined. I would never turn down a 5711 at retail.

I actually prefer the white dial but whether or not any version will be a classic is very debatable.

Like most Rolex, it won't be just a fad. I for one know won't be selling mine. If they don't sell too many now that's fine too. Cause I would bet that the herd would run to this model if Rolex ever discounted it.

It’s an Annual Calendar GMT made by Rolex in an Oyster Case. And the MSRP in steel is an absolute steal.

It’s fad proof honestly and if they changed anything then the current run would be even more desired

Fad or classic? Don't really care. If I could only keep one watch from my collection, it's my Blue Skydweller. Yes, I would sell my white dial Daytona C before I sell my SkyD.

Not a fad.

If they could find a way to shrink it somehow, the Daytona may have competition for the most desired reference.
