Explorer II

Hi JJ,
I am new to this forum...I am looking to purchase a pre owned Explorer II as a surprise for my fiance as a wedding gift. Can you or anyone suggest any trusted retailers, either online or in the Chicago area.

Thanks!!!

White dial

JJ,
I wanted a black dial Explorer II. But after visiting my nearest AD (100 miles away), the white dial sang to me. You were correct.... put both side to side and one will smile!

Great entry level rolex with useful features. Always nice to have a white dial option too.

Bracelet issue ;(

Hi,
I bought yesterday a Rolex Explorer II G series in Madrid, 3950eur; good discount although it increased eur500+ in September the 1st ;(

I’m very happy with the acquisition, but there is something that worries me: I cannot adjust the bracelet !!!

I have a thin wrist, and the current configuration I have is 5 links at the 6h side and 6 links at the 12h side. With this configuration the clasp goes toward the 12h side. The problem I have is that I cannot take out another link at the 6 h side!

What can I do? I have been to many of AD and they see no solution
Thank you very much

Thanks for the review JJ - I'm really wanting one now! :D

Why did you pick the white over the black btw?

Welcome to TRF!!

I can relate with your problem. There are 4 permanent links and one other link on the '6' side. You can add on links to this side, but cannot remove any.

You could ask your AD to take off one permanent link. It's tricky and needs a knowledgeable and expert person to do that.

Good luck - JJ

Thanks JJ!

I guess I'm going for white too!

I wish Rolex would make the arrow ALL READ instead of just the "bar" and leaving the arrow black.

:D

Or maybe change the seconds hand to a red... Maybe I'm starting to think like Jocke hahahah...

Hi all, finally I have done reading all the 14 pages here. Took me a while to go through all the posts.

I don't own any rolex yet and I believe this review had me going to buy a pre owned one. Found one from a local private seller here. It's a black dial 2003 explorer 2. Questions I have are as below and I believe some answer can be found after I have inspected the watch but the seller is 200km away from me and I have yet to take the time to go see the watch myself.

1. Would the watch have the laser etching crown on the 6h side?
2. According to the seller over the phone it has lug holes for the bracelet. What year is the exp2 stop making one without holes?
3. When is exp2 start using 3186 movement?
4. The watch has not been opened for service. What is the interval for the servicing of the watch? Is 2003 till now the watch is due for a service?
5. According to the seller, the watch has the rolex imprint around the dial. What year does the exp2 start or stop having those imprints?

Sorry if I have asked some noon questions as I am totally new to rollies.

Thanks JJ for your great review. I have a question however, does all the V series own a 3186 calliper or their still some watches wth the old one?
and what does the new calliper has over the old one? i.e. What is new?

Thx JJ

what about if I change the clasp of the explorer II with the clasp of the GMT II, that only has four links and in addition has the easly link opening

Do you know if it's possible and how much would it cost ?

thank you!!

Hi and welcome Max.

The Explorer II is still in production (but may possibly be discontinued soon)

Very good review of a very good watch. I've had mine for about four months and love everything about it. Some one said it was heavy.I found it to be quite light compared to a GMTMaster II.

i "upgraded" my F series to a M series recently. it came with the Rolex imprint around the dial (rehaut?) and comes with 3186 caliber (verified visually and via JJ's tests).

i think a 2003 model should have the laser-etched crown but no Rolex imprint and 3185 caliber with no holes. this watch you mentioned might be dubious.

I have a challenge for you. Try and get a picture of the laser etched crown on the crystal of this bugger!

Its a tough one!
I have the same watch and same serial. I didnt even know that the engraving was there until I saw the shadow of it on the dial when the sun hit the face of the watch at a certain angle

The review of the EX II is still valid and I can not agree more, since I wear it now for almost 4 weeks day/night, and in diffrent time Zones.

Another bump for the JJ Irani's review. It wasn't been updated since some time. Enjoy the read.
