Hawaii Recommendations

planning my first trip to Hawaii and looking for recommendations of all kinds...

- there for ~6 days late july/early august (going to be on the west coast for a wedding so timing isn't negotiable);

- want to stay on one island the whole time;

- want to stay at a hotel that's actually on the beach;

- want to be around as few children and families as possible; and

- want to spend lots of time on the beach but also have things to do (i.e. nightlife, good food, culture, hiking, etc etc).

need to choose an island and a hotel first and foremost, but all contributions are appreciated!

Kauai is where you will find the fewest kids.

That will be rough as some of those requirements are mutually exclusive.

IMO, you will need to make your decision based on nightlife and tourist balance. Oahu will have the nightlife but also the tourists. Kauai will have less tourists and all the outdoors stuff you could dream of but less nightlife. Maui might be the ticket depending on your definition of nightlife...

The best balance of that is Oahu cross off the no kids and families unless you rent a private home on the beach there will be kids and families at every resort I would recommend Ko Olina it's outside the craziness of Honolulu plenty of nice resorts. Lots of stuff to do on that island. Ya gotta do pearl harbor

Or the Montage Kapalua.

I would recommend doing a helicopter tour of the island too. It is breathtaking.

going to be honest. 6 days isnt enough.

you need to do the big island (volcanoes national park and black sand beaches), kauai or maui and oahu (Waikiki, diamond head, dole, north shore).

The dearth of disruptive little ones should be worth the price!

Funny I will be there on my honeymoon mid July - End of July. We picked
1. Trump - Oahu (2 nights just to see Pearl and relax after travel)
2. St Regis - Kauai (On Beach probably tons of kids)
3. Hotel Wailea - Maui (No kids close to beach)
4. Four Seasons Hualalai - Big Island (On beach probably tons of kids)

I cant tell you how they are I haven't been to any of them, I am also open to any suggestions even though everything is booked. Always open to change or different perspectives.

Me & my kids will be there. We rent a beachfront home for three weeks in summer and that’s all we do: beach, read, hike, coffee and play.

Hmmm. Are you locked in on all four of those islands / are your flights booked? Also do you prefer beach or pool? I can give you some other ideas to consider for sure.

Flights all locked in. Mix of beach and pool no true preference.

While in Maui make sure you go to mamas fish house for dinner. Book your reservation before you go to the island. I think it was a 1 month wait when my wife booked it last August.

Maui would be my recommendation! I've been to all and always go back to Maui...

Almost impossible to get to from Hawaii efficiently. Direct from LAX so north to go south or you can go to the main city and if I remember correctly there’s one flight weekly to and from bora bora.

Can’t go wrong in Maui. Gonna be there mid June. Downside is we have to come back to the mainland.

thanks for all the responses--i'm starting to think based on this thread and some conversations I've had that maui is the right move. so if I want to stay on a nice beach there but be close to whatever cool "town" areas there are (some bars, some shops, etc), what's the right hotel? ritz carlton kapalua? I have a friend who's raved about andaz but sounds like that place may be out of the way a bit...

Kauai is my favorite Island in Hawaii by far. We stayed at the St. Regis Princeville Resort and it was amazing!

The whole "no kids/families" thing is going to be hard during the summer months.

Take a look at a map, the Ritz is the furthest away from Hana. If you plan to stay at one hotel, it will be very challenging to go from one side of the island to the other for the day, and return again the next day.

Roads are slower, and stomach turning near the falls and mountains.

I enjoyed the Four Season in Maui, they have an adult pool which I enjoyed.
