Did you have to "get used" to wearing your sold gold watch?

Hello!

(Spoiler alert, this is kinda of a silly question, but I've been thinking about this).

I remember when I got my first Rolex (116610LN) I felt a bit uncomfortable wearing so much money on me, but now, I feel comfortable just wearing it daily wherever I go, I almost never think about "how much money it is".

Did you guys had to go through a similar process when you got your first solid gold watches? Or do you still feel uncomfortable because of "how much money it is".

I guess, we can get used to anything .... just wanted to know your opinion.

NOTE: I'm not talking about a situation where a watch is way out of budget. Let's supposed I just saved up for it, and I'm not worried about having to sell it to pay the rent or something

I had been wearing a SS Rolex for four years before I picked up a YG piece. It didn’t impact me too much as far as thinking about how much money was on my wrist. What I did remember noticing was how much heavier it was. Now I prefer the warmth and heft of YG over SS.

When I bought my two tone sub, I was a little nervous about it, then kinda forgot about it, and sold the watch a couple months later

This time, with my SS DJ36, the same thing happened

When I bought it, I was a little nervous about having that amount of money on my wrist

Now I’m at the stage where I forgot about it

But honestly, I try to keep that in mind but not let it bother me too much

I think and hope that THAT mentality will keep us both out of trouble

It’s like when you read those stories of guys that pick a girl at a New York club, take her to the hotel, and wake up freaking out because their Rolex is gone

I say don’t overthink it, but be aware that you are wearing an expensive watch

That will keep you and the watch safe

Ditto. Except it took me 10 years from first SS to PM.

As far as gold is concerned, I don’t think I’ll ever buy a full pm piece

I do alright for myself financially, but i am not going to pretend that losing a $30,000 watch (via robbery or assault or whatever) wouldn’t hurt my bank account

Do try to remember, You are worth more than the watch on your wrist. Gold or otherwise.

Money wise never gave it a thought. The weight difference was something. Loved it from day one

It’s called insurance.

In the event an unforeseen loss occurred, you get a replacement or the cash equivalent. No bank account hurting.

Never owned a solid gold piece so I have no clue. I can see how it might affect you though as a daily wearer. I believe it depends on the persons mind set. There are some members on here that could drop 30-50k and not even wink and then there are others where that’s a ton of loot.

If I was able to buy one I don’t know if I could fully enjoy it. I think I’d always be concerned about it getting scratched or dinged.

Got used to wearing sold gold Rolex's now. I dont even think about it anymore.

When I bought my very first piece I used to always be conscience about it - now I dont even care at all.

Not a second thought.

SS models for 14 yrs...then PM (RG DD). The heft that others discuss here was noticeable difference...and the DD isn’t exactly a subtle statement. As for $ on the wrist? Like a few noted, it’s insured, I don’t think about that much other than having good SA. I just enjoy for what it is while I can.

That's true, plus I can be attached to certain things and I'm sure going to be attached to a watch purchased at such price...
So wearing it on my wrist and always alert to scratch or robbery or something, anything, that's not comfortable and I just won't.

I feel comfortable wearing my WG Day Date as my daily watch, I would not feel comfortable if it would be colored gold.

First couple of times I swam with my YM I did think about how deep the lake was; but that's what insurance is for.

I have not insured my watches (but will for some) so I think about it when travelling to unknown/shady places. I also do not feel comfortable to wear full coloured gold ROLEX in some work settings due to stigma in those circles.

Otherwise concerning your question regarding value I think the first step is the biggest, going from say a $100 watch to $10k watch is x100 more value on your wrist to only x2-4 for full gold in the next step.

No, it feels much better on the wrist than SS (I have a white Gold Daytona 116509)

My father wore a YG DD in the early 80's and as a child I promised myself I would buy one if I could ever afford it; I had some spare money a few years ago and was able to acquire a lovely diamond faced 118238. It was my first (and will be my only) solid gold watch. I only wear it on special occasions and it isn't on my wrist more than 6 times a year.

The watch does look quite ostentatious and that would be what deters me from wearing it more often as opposed to the actual value.

It is however a lovely thing and it particularly reminds me of my late father whenever it is on my wrist.

No.

First Rolex was solid YG. Since moved on to SS.

Have not had to get used to wearing either.

I agree we get some odd ones but this is not one of them. Walking around with a $30,000 watch is of some consequence. I don't have a desire to own a watch that expensive but if I did I'd have to think about this question.
