Amusing to me.

So many times the nickname deal stirs up such dramatic responses, mostly from the hard core reference referees. Hulk, Batman, comic character of choice. But yet in the Omega group there grown ass men peeing their pants over a watch with an actual cartoon character on the dial. Sure, fine, I get it, the NASA Snoopy award, BFD. Its still a cartoon character on the actual watch, for grown ups, for $10,000. Maybe I’m the only one that sees the comic irony of that.

It's one of those Easter Eggs that nerds like me really appreciate.

There's like a dozen easter eggs in that new Omega 50th anniversary. I think it's one of the best Omegas of all time!

Wholeheartedly agree. Don’t get it. IMHO this watch could never be a “one and only”.

Don’t get me wrong, overall I think it’s a really nice piece, right up to the Snoopy. Then you lose me. I can even dig on the case back, just not the comic character.

I would love a 311.32.42.30.04.003, but not as a sole watch.

The original Snoopy is a good watch (that is so insanely overpriced) but this one loses me pretty fast.

I'm not a fan of the new 50th anniversary release. The snoopy cartoon at 9 o'clock on the newest/current release is a little too much of an eye sore.

However, the previous silver snoopy design is one of my all time favorites of any speedmaster release. The snoopy is very muted on the front, tasteful design overall, great collector piece. Too bad its nearly unobtainable at today's market prices.

Yeah this one is cool, and crazy expensive right now! I think the Rolex nicknames are more stupid than the Snoopy watch.

Actually I really like it! If it wasn't 42mm I'd seriously consider getting one. The Apollo 13 mission really hit me hard - I was in high-school at the time and was rivited to the TV every second I could to follow what was going on. That and I've always been a big Peanuts fan. And the technology of the moon on the back crystal, and the fun animations, are cool. This watch hits all those buttons.

Yeah, it's gimmicky. But better in my mind than all their 007 watches. At least this commemorates something real and meaningful. And I think it looks stunning -- the silver, white, and blue really look amazing.

And okay, I confess I like the cartoon names of Rolex watches too. Don't take life (or watches) too seriously -- none of us are gonna get out of it alive anyway. :-)

-Dan

Edited to add: I was going to get a YM40. Now I'm rethinking that in favor of this watch ($4K cheaper), maybe if it's slim enough the 42mm will work...

I love speedmasters and will always have one in my collection. I am also very big on NASA history and get the snoopy reference, but having a snoopy logo on the watch doesn’t appeal to me. Just not my bag baby!

It’s definitely whimsical and nerdy. It’s like a corvette convertible while Rolex Yachtmaster is more like a Mercedes E class with the 21 inch wheel package.

You're right.

I'd go with the Corvette any day! :-)

It’s an interesting backstory. Watch the video for this watch release and it explains it well.

TLDR the comic creator liked NASA and the Apollo program
And let them use the Snoopy character for free. NASA has a silver snoopy award that they give out to people who contributed to the program including the Omega watch company. Coincidentally 50 years today they gave it to Omega.

I get the speedmaster and owned one. Probably the most important wrist watch....full stop. That said, I cant see a scenario where I would own a snoopy. Maybe thats the difference between me (into watches) versus a collector that would collect all variations in a given set of things (ie. gmt's subs, etc...).

It is too expensive I think. It’s not limited edition so I expect prices will drop over the coming years.

I like that the dial is made of silver. It’s a pretty finish. Surprised we don’t see that more outside ALS and omega.

I see where you're coming from but I definitely think the Omega Snoopy is much less cringey than the Rolex nicknames. Don't like the new one, but the white dial version is great....just massively overpriced now.

Well, this 71-year-old still has the "kid" in him, and I absolutely love it. Deposit placed, and eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Snoopy!

Cheers,
Carl

Tend to agree. Although I am a fan of the 50th as well, the 45th is just so perfect in every way. That's still the one to own.

I relayed a similar post over in the other thread about the release.

I don't know when I'd wear this and if I'm spending $10k I'm not sure I want something that could be a little "childish". Its one of the reasons why I cannot stand the stupid Rolex superhero nicknames.

At least with those there isn't a picture of Batman or Hulk emblazoned on the dials.

I'm glad they made a watch that appeals to their customers that will be attainable without prostrating one's self at the knees of authorized dealers or paying a secondary mark-up. I hope they are successful at rolling this out gradually, matching supply to the market's demand at the asking price.

Also prefer this one over the new release by far. Should have gotten it years ago after attending a presentation by the two Apollo XIII drivers still alive.
