Vintage Rolex Date 15505 questions

Hello everyone

I have been looking at a vintage Rolex Date 15505 (gold plated) in (really) good shape given its age with all paperwork. It has not sold yet which makes me think it's the price (mid 5's). What are your thoughts on what this is worth, desirability/collectability etc? I can get a similar two-tone DateJust for slightly less and it's probably more collectable. Wife doesn't like those as she would wear it from time to time.

Thank you!

Overall, I don't necessarily see either model as terribly collectible (the gold-filled 15505 is uncommon, but not broadly popular IMO), so you should probably follow your own personal preferences rather than thinking about them as an investment.

Also, depending on the reference, specific dial, and condition, $5k may be a pretty high price for a TT DJ in today's market.

I used to own a 15505 that I bought for $1,300 back in about 2017. I sold it in 2019 or so for $1,500. It was the watch head only but it was in good shape and I had it serviced. Overall, I never could get used to the small 34mm size. I much prefer the 36mm size of the datejust. I also didn't like that it was gold plated instead of solid gold since I think gold plating is tacky. There's no way I would pay over $5k for a 15505 but that's just me. If I was in your shoes, I would definitely go for a datejust.

Great feedback, both of you. Thank you. Thought the 16xxx were more popular, certainly more available but not all with pedigree
