Rolex Commando
What should one pay for a vintage Rolex Commando in very good condition with no box or papers? Seems to be a very rare Rolex.

The asking prices I've seen (10-20K) on these are ridiculous, just for an Explorer-type dial and "COMMANDO" script. At the time they were produced (late '60s-early '70s), I believe they were the lowest priced watch Rolex sold. Remember that they are manual-wind and 34mm. Much better value IMO to look for an excellent 1016 of the period, and it's 36mm and has a 1570 movement.

thanks for the info did not know it was manual wind. Original price was around $150 I believe and they were in Abercrombie & Fitch ads

Or, you could also get an excellent 5500 Explorer too (for less than the 1016), if you're looking for the 34mm size. The problem with those watches is provenence though. Without the original Rolex paperwork, you'll never know if you're looking at a redialed Air-King 5500, and paying way too much for it.

The commando has a cool name but finding original examples is hard. In the Rolex world, the harder it is to find, the easier it is to find, if you know what I mean.
