It's so interesting when it comes to the submariner that some people seem to insist on the date function, however the same people would have zero issues recommending an OP, daytona, explorer 1, or milgauss (all without date function) if asked. Seems like there is date-bias in some

My advice on this topic is always the same. Date if its going to be your only Rolex. No Date if building a collection

Would you believe once upon a time the date sub with cyclops was considered a big innovation. I have always loved the date and cyclops and can’t look at the no date sub without thinking something is missing...

Rolex has the best date cyclops combo too. Love my Panerai but the cyclops on it isn’t as readable as the Sub.

I had the option for either one. I chose the Date because that says Rolex Sub to me. I know there are many arguments that no date is the purist form but the date option has been around longer than it hasn't. ALSO, I don't feel any iteration of watch meets this purist argument after the 60's. The Bond version had no crown guards either and a gilt dial I believe. Therefore, for purist reasoning the BB58 is best! Otherwise, get the date version. It's what every other dive watch wishes it was!

On a side note, I considered the no date and the BB58. I chose the SubC Date because to me, it is THE Rolex! When I think Rolex, it's Sub Date and the YGDD from the mid 90's.

No date.
Not sure if I've replied already. Seems to be a weekly question.

This...might also apply to many other watches where the date is an option

No wrong answer...I've had both and the 114060 remains. It's a keeper.

Date. I have a Speedy Pro, Nomos Ahoi, Tudor Ranger, Cellini, all no date. But, when it came to making the choice the Date was simply more attractive to me. The AD had both and I was able to compare side by side on the wrist, the Date was in the safe, this was right before the Rolex drought hit. I have no regrets, I would get the Date again if the circumstances presented themselves again.

If your watch had a date you'd be able to keep track!

Like many here, I chose the Submariner. The one with the date.

Honestly, I'd have been happy with either.

Sub no date, as a tool watch the less complication the less chance of malfunctioning.

But that's me, I like things to be simple as possible. For example my brompton, I chose 2 speed instead of 6. One for uphill and the other one for flat roads.
