16710 Question regarding bezel inserts
I have seen several 16710 GMTs being offered with multiple bezel inserts. I haven't been able to find out whether or not these watches were sold originally with multiple inserts, or if they were added to the watch group somewhere along the way?
In addition, if they were sold as a package originally... is there something in the model number that denotes the multiple inserts? Sorry for my ignorance, but one has to ask to learn. |

I don't think they were ever sold with multiple inserts. Crazy WIS owners made them like that.

Never sold with multiple inserts. I believe the original paperwork (at least in the us) did denote which insert was on the watch at purchase.

If I am not mistaken (and that could very well be the case…) this reference came with three different inserts (Black, Coke, Pepsi) but not all at once. You can get the other colors that the reference originally came with from Rolex. They will insist on a mounting fee and the cost of the insert.

The 16710 came with one of three bezel inserts.
At the, at least in Canada, ADs could order all three inserts separately. When I was going to purchase one the AD offered me the other two bezels as part of the deal... and a discount. Like a fool, I bought a DateJust instead. Different times.... |

I bought these inserts about 12 years ago for approximately £30 each.
Left to right, the first two are for my 16710 as it came with a coke insert. The last one is for my 16610 lv. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was asked for a model number and my inserts arrived a week later in separate little greaseproof packets with a green coronet on them and part no. Both inside a little Rolex coronet embossed aluminium tin. Different times indeed. I think they were about £45 a pop.

Thank you all for your time and knowledge. I do appreciate it. As I hunt for a nice 16710, the more info, the better.

Kind of OT but was there any difference in the colour of the back of the pepsi insert between an original and a service replacement?

My 16710 coke is currently at the PA RSC for its first service in 20 years. I'm getting a new insert to replace the faded beat-up original one. The new insert is $40, and it's an extra $16 to get the old one back to keep with all my original stuff. A few people on here made it sound like the RSC would change colors, i.e. from coke to pepsi, if you asked them to. I was always under the impression that they would only give you parts that were original to the serial number? Yes? No? Also, how do you pop the insert out without nicking it? Do you need a special tool? Thanks!

Use something like this (a plastic applicator) to gently wedge between the bezel and case at around the 5 o’clock mark and firmly twist and the bezel will pop off. You then gently but firmly push the aluminum insert out from the back of the bezel using your thumbs being careful not to bend the insert. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

...and be careful not to lose the little click spring that’s under the bezel attached to the case at 11 o’clock. It can easily come out of its little nook and disappear into your carpet forever. Some people remove the bezel while the watch is inside a plastic bag so if it flies out it stays in the bag.

The more I hunt for a 16710, the more I think I'd just rather buy a black or coke and have Rolex swap it for a Pepsi.

Get the best example you can find in any bezel color and then get the bezel you want.

Absolutely. However, non-pepsi 16710 generally do not sell for any significant discount due exactly to this fact. So in practice, it doesn't really matter either way.

Got my 16710 coke about a month ago and haven't worn any other watch in my collection. Got the other 2 bezels from RSC but haven't attempted to swap them out yet. AD says it's tricky and just let them do it. But I want to learn to do it myself. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |

mrcsatx - did you buy the extra inserts through your AD, or directly from the RSC?
Thanks! |

Thank you kind sir. I've learned sooo much in the past couple days about a timepiece I've had for 20 years. Definitely going to buy a pepsi and black insert for my watch, and have somebody show me the correct way to change them.

i think it is more expensive to buy a 16710 Pepsi, than it is to buy a 16710 LN and just source a Pepsi insert.

I guess I could ask this here, I have a 16710 with a Coke and Pepsi bezel insert, the Pepsi insert is impossible to press into the bezel, it was purchased from RSC so it is real. What technique do you guys use to press in the insert without damage to the bezel, insert and your fingers?
Bonus pic;
