Royal Oak Quartz 1992 or 2005?

Good afternoon Gents. I didn't really get much of a response to my last post, which may've been a bit too specific so now for a more generic question.

Despite the well-meaning opinion advising me against going for a Quartz RO, I think I will be taking the plunge as the difference in price for an equivalent Blue Dial Automatic seems to be at least $6-8k which I feel is pretty significant.

In a nutshell I have the following options, all in pretty much similar condition and from verified Sellers:

1992 56175 (Dark Blue Lume) no box or papers, 1 year warranty. No service History
2001 56175 Full set, 1 year warranty-$1500 more
2005 57175 (Brighter Blue Lume)-No Warranty or Service History, Another $1500 more

Would really appreciate some opinions, bearing in mind I have no plans of selling anytime in the near future and probably wouldnt be able to find a Buyer anyway!

I would personally go for the full set examples. But more than that, I would look at the condition. for me any polishing is a no go unless it was done by AP themselves. That's the most important when I go vintage AP shopping.

I'm no expert, but do you think this has been overpolished? This is the full set from 2001. I'm a bit wary about the discoloured screws. Even if the watch is 19 years old, these are White Gold Screws so shouldn't really be getting tarnished should they? Or could it just be a bad camera angle

The Seller just got back to me, says the watch is actually unpolished and that the screws have discoloured a bit over time...I’m still not any clearer on what to do

Full set is always easier to resell when you get bored. I'd do that.

Note that this watch is 33mm so it will be very small, always good to try before you buy.

Doesn’t look that small actually! Do you know the lug-to-lug measurement?

Seen enough wrist pics, and had a chance to try on the Tantalum version at one of my local watch stores to be convinced its a pretty ideal size for my slim 6.25 inch wrists, so have ordered a good condition sharp edged piece from 1992 with papers and a recent service....not my first time blind buying a watch but certainly the first time I'd be blind dropping more than $10k on a 30 year old watch! Wish me luck...

Good luck.

There are a lot of polished ones then in your opinion?

Yes considering the model's age, I have come across quite a few shiny looking examples which on closer inspection appear to give away some very visible repeated polishing, thanks to the soft edges on the bezel.
