Potential Breakthrough for COVID-19

Here’s an interesting article of hope amidst the
global hysteria... We can only pray and believe!

https://m.jpost.com/HEALTH-SCIENCE/I...vaccine-619101

Mods, not sure if this needs to be moved or if this
has been already posted.

Was thinking, if this is covid-19 were there 18
prior to this one and this one happen to leak out?
Scary ...

It's Covid-19 as in 2019, the year it surfaced.

At the moment, there are about 10 COVID-19 vaccine candidates in the works.

At least one of them could begin clinical trials in April — but here in the US under the Food and Drug Administration trial process, it would still take about three more months to conduct the first stage of human testing and another eight months or so to complete the next stage of the trial process.

Bottom line: In a best-case scenario, a safe and effective vaccine is still over a year away from distribution in the US.

Nice to see positive news coming. Yesterday read that a lab in Canada isolated the dead virus which is breakthrough in developing vaccine. As I also read- this is what happens when you take Hockey away from Canadians. :)

Long road ahead- but It will be uplifting to see how government and private industry works together to get the eventual vaccines out. Godspeed.

I read there has been some success in treating COVID-19 with HIV and MS drugs. A good thing because the drugs are already on the market and not entirely new.

I’m not a doctor. But I think we can split the timetables into two categories: treatments and vaccines.

A vaccine’s clinical trial success and production for mass distribution will take time, no doubt -imagine the demand!

I think doctors are also exploring effective treatments, medications to reduce the severity of the illness and ideally affect the mortality rates.

It’s too bad that societies emphasis has been on IT development, social media, apps, and “defense spending” etc and almost ignored research and development in medicine completely. What has really been accomplished in the last 40 years in medicine beyond prevention? It’s like that whole sector has been standing still while we have seen massive expansion in IT. Now that there is motivation a vaccine will come, but will take many months to get tested and into the market place and used in a mass scale.

We’ve spent trillions for defense, but the great threat was medical. We should have hedged our bets and put more into medicine.

I know. Once most major countries obtained Nuclear weapons, old school warfare’s days were numbered. I mean the next epidemic may very well be far more lethal.

And here is un update from AP regarding a trial to begin today and other efforts in the works.

https://apnews.com/8089a3d0ec8f9fde971bddd7b3aa2ba1

Even if all goes right will still take a long time till a vaccine is available to the public. But they are working on it.
