How will life change after the Corona virus?

More on a serious note... as I’ve been thinking about the end of this madness. I feel somewhat sad to think about the ramifications to the majority of everyone’s lives.

Some people will have lost a friend or a family member
Some people will have lost their jobs
We all have lost 2-3 months of our lives

I feel like the economic toll that we are all facing is yet unknown but whatever it will be is worst than what it should have been.

What’s your view

I am afraid that I have no idea what the "end" of this will look like, or if I'll recognize it when it gets here. Which scares me first, then makes me really really mad.

All of the above.

Hard to rank anything above the loss of of loved one, and know that’s not what you are getting at.

I mentioned this on another post but I hope that when this has passed that people will remember all the challenges we went through to survive this. I hope that we take those lessons to heart and make some meaningful changes (societal, political, health and financial) and not go back to business as usual.

The one thing that we can all take comfort in, personally, financially and so on, is that we’re not alone.

I am optimistic about the future - we will recover and rebound. Stronger. Different but stronger.

I think we'll be okay. Stronger bond/commitment to family. Greater appreciation of simple pleasures. A zest for outdoor activities. Renewed appreciation for life.

I hope it will help the public appreciate who the important people in society really are; the sorts of people who “the system” generally mistreats and undervalues.

The blokes who take out our bins; the people who deliver our groceries; the teachers who look after our kids; the carers and social workers who tend to the vulnerable.

Seeing how the nation responds to this, I am in awe of the might of this country and the courage of the people.

Medical volunteers rushing to serve in the hot spots, field hospitals up and running in a matter of days, financial relief flowing swiftly to save the small businesses and working people, companies retooling to manufacture critical medical supplies and equipment. These are the brightest of human spirit that we are witnessing.

In time of historical danger, real heroes run toward it, not away from it. While I am not one of these heroes, the least I can do is to keep my spirit up and cheer for them.

I always kind of thought the important people were all of us.

It'll change briefly, but we've proven ourselves capable of immense stupidity and to have an even greater capacity for self/institutional delusion. I have no reason to think this will change.

Societies have had to bounce back from much worse.
At least with this, we don't have countries and cities in ruins to go along with the lost lives.

I think after this you're going to see at least some people start to take things like washing their hands and staying home when they are sick way more seriously. You're probably also going to start to see jobs that can support working from home be more supportive of those that want to work from home more often. Another thing I think we'll probably find is a slight up tick in residential real estate with maybe a dip in commercial real estate for things like offices and store fronts.

Gig work will probably also be a much more accepted and encouraged type of job in the 2020s after this. Hopefully we'll also see more support given to hospitals and a better sense of preparedness among people for catastrophes like this.

My prediction is many companies will shift away from physical locations and towards working from home. Not every sector but a significant number.

Manufacturing might come "home" in many sectors. Price/cost will always be a factor but security will push some companies to reconsider their priorities of cost versus location.

And, I believe we'll see a slump and a recovery. No clue on a time frame but I'm hopeful for a full return.

Full disclosure: my Magic 8-ball broke a couple weeks ago and my crystal ball is still at the cleaners getting polished.

We have had a rough time of it in my area. A month ago we were hit with an EF4 tornado and lost 19 lives in my town and now this. We all helped each other out where we could and the spirit of unity is amazing. We will all get through this together. UNITED WE STAND!

People will discover how effective digital communication can be. We had a collaborative workshop today across 3 countries, all of us dialled in from home. Worked surprisingly well.

I doubt I will be back on a plane unless it’s truly an essential trip much before the end of the year though.

Supply chain disruption may alter FMCG buying habits longer term too.

And you probably never will again. We all will learn a lot from this. Every country will stockpile the necessary supplies for the inevitable next one. Tracking will be much more accurate so a much earlier response will be made. Whether what we did on this one was the best alternative will be reviewed and reviewed and perhaps a more targeted response is possible next time with less economic disruption. A further impact from this may be a long term structural social distancing normalcy which actually is not a good thing as it will tend to hamper any economic recovery if events are not well attended, eateries are never full and conferences become a thing of the past.

Good to see you back.

Maybe he was thinking about societies outside the narrow scope of our lifetime.
Throughout civilisation, societies have shut down for much longer than 3 months but the world still turns and here we are.
That may be what he meant.

I'm trying to remain positive through all this. Recently read an interview with a 95-year-old holocaust survivor on his outlook on this pandemic. He was among the 25% of survivors in the camp he was in who survived a typhoid fever outbreak (as if facing death daily wasn't bad enough). If people can survive something as horrific and unimaginable as the holocaust and start families, pursue work, and live a normal life afterwards, we can and absolutely will get through this pandemic.

A couple of things are certain, small business will never be the same again, big business will work out it is more cost-effective to have people working from home, there will be a long worldwide recession, the survivors will be the winners. just saying is all.
