Pre-owned watches pedigree

Hi everyone!

I've never bought a pre-owned watch. My main concern with them is the pedigree they come with. I don't know the people who used to wear the watch and I don't know in which circumstances was it worn. As an extreme example: would you wear a watch after a serial murderer or a maniac committing their crimes with this watch on? I wouldn't. Of course it is highly unlikely to be the case, but getting a watch after just an unpleasant person (dishonest, rude, yelling at his family etc.) is rather likely. And it bothers me.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Has it ever stopped you accepting or spending the cash in your pocket?
Heaven only knows where the, (probably cocaine saturated) notes have been!

Just buy new, nothing we can say will change this irrational concern you have. Leave us out of it...buy new.

Notes are not personal items, they come and go :)

On the other hand we like to think of our watches as not of just time-telling devices or jewellery, but more like of something that accumulates our memories and sentiments and is associated with us, becomes part of us in some sense, so it seems logical (at least for me) to think of which memories and sentiments are accumulated on pre-owned pieces.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to stop buying pre-owned neither am asking to be convinced to buy pre-owned myself Just wanted to share my attitude and know if I'm the only one who thinks like that :)

No, but if this is an issue, just buy new. Otherwise you will never know, even if you know the seller, you never know for sure.

I do feel the same. Call me weird, but a watch is a very personal item and I prefer to buy new. There are some very strange people in this world and I don't want their watch on my wrist. For those who have no issue with buying used, rock on.

I have never thought about anything used this way, whether a car, a boat, a house, etc.
But for those who do, if you want to build your own personal memories and not think of any possible bad mojo, I say buy new and enjoy.

Not exactly like what you are mentioning, but I don't like other people DNA, skin residues, germs and what not on a watch.
New only for me

for those concerned about germs and other personal issues, i understand, but it is hard to reconcile that emotion with perhaps other things (people one dates, people one shares a car with, uber, subway, hotels, restaurants)

Not everyone. I believe that someone paid even more than retail for a Daytona that was owned by some race car driver named Paul.

Glad to know I'm not alone!

IMHO it illustrates that the history of the specific piece and the personalities of the ex-owners are important. :) At least sometimes and to some buyers.
