Daytona Green (Retail) vs 5711R (Grey)

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to get your input on what you would do. I have the chance to go for a Green Daytona at retail sometime early next year... was wondering if you would go for it or potentially save up for a 5711R (grey) later down the line...

Of course, I could get the Green Daytona at retail, enjoy it for a while and sell it later down the line to fund the 5711R, but I am not interested in doing that and would rather get a watch to keep permanently.

All comes down to personal preference, but would appreciate all your input!

I think it also comes down to lifestyle.

The YG Daytona is more robust and very flashy (there are quite a few places I would not be comfortable wearing this, including when with clients). The 5711R is more refined and understated (for a full RG watch) but perhaps also a bit more fragile and prone to scratches.

I guess this also depends what other watches you have, which categories do you already have covered?

Good point... I like both equally to be honest, but currently considering if the 5711R is worth the huge premium, when I can get the YG Daytona for retail...

I already have the Casual watch and Sport watch category covered... but no gold pieces as of yet, so they're both appealing!

Buy the 116508 and decide on the 5711R later. No reason you can't try on both at once and then decide...if you said you've got one coming. Most people don't have this option

They are such different animals you just have a preference in terms of which one you’d like to own ...

I would get the YG now, use it, enjoy it and if you still have a craving for the 5711R later. Trade in the YG back to the AD for the 5711R upgrade. My AD has both lines, so if I sell it back to them, its not "flipping" they will also pay me over retail, maybe not as much as a grey dealer, but then i don't run the risk of pissing anyone off..

Nails it for me too. Not sure I would ever wear a PM Rolex as most of the people I deal with would find it pretty tasteless.

I would never class wearing and enjoying and then selling as flipping.

A flipper is someone who buys to instantly sell unworn at a profit.

I have had two Daytonas (one YG) and now a 5711 (SS). I never liked the Daytona, personally, as I found it a bit small, never liked the screw in pushers for the chronograph, and the dials are pretty unreadable. Plus, I like a watch that shows the date. When I wear a gold watch I like it to be more "elegant" than a Daytona. Like a Calatrava on leather.

Many love the Daytona however, and if you use a watch in extremely vigorous activities it may be more durable than the PP and service is certainly quicker. The 5711 is very comfortable and has gone swimming, played golf and rock climbed with no problems.

I would go for the Daytona. However, I would look into obtaining a PM Royal Oak in RG for retail over paying the £35k premium for the 5711R.

I’d probably get the daytona at retail just because paying up for a 5711r burns. Although the 5711r is my girls watch.

One on the wrist is worth more than a watch down the road that you are not promised or have any type of delivery time. If you are buying the PP on the Grey Market it makes the Rolex at retail all the better. The Daytona, in any forms, is arguably one of the Grail watches from any brand on the market. It is hyped up but it has never faded and it is an awesome reference. Resale on the Daytona is strong and down the road you may want to move it and you would be in a good position. Buy the Daytona, wear it and enjoy it and see what you think. I do not see a down side to ownership. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I prefer the daytona. Enjoy it for years while saving up. If you still want the 5711 after you have saved up dor it buy it. If not you know you made the right decision.

I have and love the 5711R but I wouldn't pay the huge premium, and if you are not willing to without a second thought then I don't think its for you.

Although I like the 5711 way over the Daytona, I can't justify paying the huge premiums on any grey 5711 unless your cash loaded and don't care.

I'd want neither a Daytona Green at retail nor a 5711/1R grey. The Daytona Green is just too loud for me. I'd also want to use any Daytona as the tool watch I think it is. This makes YG less than ideal. in contrast I am prepared to baby any Nautilus to some extent. But I am too poor to go grey and would just wait for the call like I have done in the past. Hoping for a future 5711/1J blue and/or 1G blue both of which I'd likely prefer over the 1R.

I have the 116508, and while I don't wear it too often these days, I love it. I'd opt for the YG Daytona and, as others have mentioned, purchase or trade-in for the 5711R later down the road.

5711r is on a different level to the Daytona in my opinion but I wouldn’t be willing to buy it above retail

get the daytona because its at retail and wear it and decide later. sell it for profit if you don't like it but that opportunity is rare and you should definitely take it if you like the watch

I have a Daytona (116506) and 5711R.Chalk and cheese-both grails for me very different watches.

I wouldn’t pay the crazy premium for the 5711R personally
