From what I have researched, the 138 with long ink window (this pen has long ink window) was produced in 1938-39, and was equipped with a 2 tone gold nib. Looks like mine has got a replacement nib (or the gold plating has worn out) and my pen's nib was manufactured during WW2. Basically in wartime Germany all gold usage was banned due to the war efforts, the manufacturers switched to use Palladium, and after a short period of time even Palladium was banned, and they used steel for nibs, until end of the war in 1947 or so they were able to use gold again.

So that's the story, but no one can tell me exactly for how long and which year/s MB used Palladium in their nibs.

There are other 138's made after the war and they are full celluloid, short ink window and without the D.R.P. #652405 mark at the cap.

Over the past few months, I've acquired a few more pens.

The newest and most exciting one:

Montblanc 234 1/2 PL (platinschwarz) from the 30s. I really love the pattern.

Note that in the background of the 2nd photo, the price of the 234 1/2 back in 1936 was 15 Reichmarks, and this is the middle tier of MB's pens. I would dearly love to get a 128PL, which is bloody expensive.

Also got a MB #220 from the 70s. This one is very much like the Lamy 2000 with matte black brushed finish.

Another one from the 1950s. MB #256. This is the biggest of the "winged" nib series.

Now a concealed nib #34 from the 1960-70s.

Nearly forgotten is another #136 from 1938 or 1939.

So now my 13x family is near complete.

All I need is a 132 and a long ink window version of 139. The cap ring of the 138 is brassed and currently it's with a very reputable MB repairer for his restoration magic.

Kai, those are fantastic finds. I have been on a 333/234 kick recently. I love all the variations.

That Omas is grand. I love that barrel. I have a blue saffron celluloid and a sterling Marconi.

Cheers.
