I lived there for 4 months, and glad I lived in a highrise in Sydney. Even though harmless to humans I never wanted to run across a huntsman spider, just creepy!

I’m taking my first trip to Sydney in August. I hope to avoid these spiders!

Crikey.......
FYI there are 27 different animals in Australia that can and have killed humans, but for our American friends the most likely thing to kill you are cars, given we drive on the OTHER side of the road.

For the next visit Australia thread (although this topic is interesting) could someone post about wine tasting trips from Sydney?

2. Mudgee - about 4 hours west of Sydney. A great drive across the great dividing range - spectacular change in landscape. Mudgee is a small country town with sophisticated food scene and brilliant wines. Particularly Robert Stein for their reds and their restaurant where you watch the sun go down with kangaroos bouncing around. Great Ports up there too. 3. Orange - 3 hours West. It’s a regional centre. Country NSW has reinvented itself with wine and food. Search these 3 as a start, rent a car and enjoy. |

I had the cleanest windshield in Australia.
Whenever I was making a turn left or right and went to put on the signal light, I put on the windshield wipers instead since for some reason they put them there instead. (signal light thing is on the right of the column). So to not look like an idiot I hit the washers too, to make it look like I meant to do that. |

Sadly the Holden is not made in Australia any more, actually no cars are made here anymore.

One thing to note with Australian wine however, is that our weather can vary dramatically from year to year. To get the absolute best out of a bottle you have to not only look at the grape and the origin, but the vintage as well. Perhaps this topic deserves its own thread. Back on topic however, it should be noted that this possum was the pygmy variety (about the size of a house cat), so this spider isn't actually as large as you might think. |

I opened my front door one day to find a big, black, bird-eating spider on the mat.
I said a few expletives and took a major step back but she was not well and allowed herself to be put into a jar and taken to a Spider-expert. To my shame, I would normally squash a spider but this one was too big to squash, more like a small animal. Like the picture below.
