AD wouldn’t even take deposit on BLNR or LV

Monday I found myself in what I would consider a fairly regarded AD in Burlington, VT. While being helped by a very attentive representative we quickly got down to brass tax and with went over to the case.

I was greeted by an array of Dates of every flavor, a handful of two tone Daytona’s, two tone YM and a beautiful WG Smurf she was very kind to let me wear while we talked in the alcove of the store.

I came in with Amex in hand with a mental list of references I would have been happy to walk out with. Unfortunately I met the same fate as many of you, empty handed.

While the WG Smurf was amazing, i’m a YG guy. I came in looking for at least to get on the waiting list. Even that was rejected. I was met with an email today with the deposit and time frames of other items we discussed and a reiteration if they wouldn’t take a deposit on BLNR or LV.

Shocked to see some of the time frames, I didn’t inquire about the LN TT so I don’t know why that’s included.

This was a pleasant AD experience even though the outcome was fruitless.

See below.

Well at least they were honest with you about the demand. If it were me I wouldn’t be putting down a deposit on anything though.

Best of luck in your search

Yes the honesty was refreshing, and I shouldn’t say I left empty handed as I was given a hard bound catalog as a parting gift.

Well, to my eyes, this is a very straightforward and transparent approach.

They put in writing all they can offer and didn't lead you on about anything they can't.

Can anyone really ask for more, putting aside the ingoing ideal outcome.

Most ADs won't take a deposit for a waiting list item because they can't commit to what the price will be when the item finally arrives. It's customary to pass any price increases that may occur during the wait to the customer.

I totally agree with this. It’s cool that they were straight with you and didn’t try to pull some stupid games.

Personally I respect this kind of business practice much more and I would be more inclined to work with them in the future.

Are most ADs still doing 10% off on TT and 15-18% off on PM?

Given there was nothing there, I’d see it unlikely to offer a discount on something they can’t keep in the building.

The last time I was in my AD, they were MSRP for stainless, 10% off for TT (including SS DJ 41 with WG fluted bezel), and 18% off for PM. This was probably 4 months ago. I’ll have to check back in. Their stock is normally OK but I just gave up trying to go in every few weeks on delivery day looking for something “special”.

Nope. Basically zero discount on TT or PM pro sports models. Maybe a small discount on a day date or TT DJ. Maybe.

I have never been asked to leave a deposit of any kind. Normally that happens when you order a product, so it makes sense. Since you can't actually order anything from Rolex there'd be absolutely no reason to take a deposit.

Since you want something in YG there's a good chance it's in stock somewhere in the States. I'd be calling around if I were in your position. A lot of options out there.

Not so much for the Comic Book Heroes.

Similar story in Las Vegas... but I know where you can find a blue two tone sub in stock in two places if you're interested.

This week I plunked down 20% for a 3 week wait on a 216570 black dial. Dealer referred to it as a "pre-order" and stated that this was possible for DJ41, basic Yachtmaster, and Explorer II. We have the largest dealer in the USA here and they see subs and new GMTs monthly, but they're sold to a 5-10 deep waiting list of high rollers.

Are they suggesting a TT Sub (blue) wouldn't even be available until next year based on the slight difference in the description of the email attachment? That's bonkers. I just saw two of those (one black TT and one blue TT) in my AD's display case last Saturday here in SoCal!

I saw a blue dial and black dial TT sub sitting side by side at Gearys in Santa Monica Tuesday.

It takes longer for the horses to deliver the watches to VT.

It's crazy out there, when I got my sub last year every dealer had expIIs in the case like nobody wanted them. I did the rounds last month looking for a polar and nobody that or the black to even try on. They need to have at least demo units to try on, don't want to just put a deposit on something I haven't tried on in a year or two

Neither would I. The curiosity I had for the YG was mostly to see what a time frame was.

How Grey’s on here can offer them BNIB for nearly 10k less stopped that idea Of AD only for a lot of us.

This is actually a very refreshingly honest AD.

I'm sure with such openness and honesty, over time, that you could strike up a good relationship with these guys.

Like I say a good honest AD. Most ADs dont even follow up with an e-mail. I'd keep in with this AD.
