Fair, but the 911 platforms have been more of a renovation than innovation from gen to gen. As a carmaker, Porsche is top notch so I wouldn't expect many issues prior to the production cars reaching consumers.

The C8 is a significant departure from the C7 and previous gens.

Actually they may not, Tadge J. Gave an interview about the packaging basically precluded the three pedal layout... it would put the clutch in direct interference with the drivers side wheel well.

Fake news. This never happened.

Very valid points on both cars. Obviously going from RWD to mid-engine is not evolutionary.

I started filling in the “reservation form” on chevrolet.com until I had to pick a dealer and they wanted a $500 deposit. $500 deposit for what amounts to “hey, I’m interested” not an order, and no projected date in site. I am interested but don’t need to be an early adopter. I expect there will be a thriving grey market for them early on as well as gouging by dealers but it won’t last long, maybe a year at the most.
My thought pattern to whom might be interested. I am nearing retirement and once settled in hope to acquire a secondary “fun” car. I’ve had a Cayman and a 911 but my leading candidate has been a used Alfa 4C which are now dropping to the $40-45K range. Drive one before judging, a lightweight carbon tub no frills sports car, they are incredibly fun but being Italian will likely be finicky down the road. Second choice has been a 981 Boxster, you can get a very nice example in the $35-40K range. I know from Porsche ownership that they will be reliable for years to come.
And then this wacky new ‘Vette drops. 500hp midengine car for only $15-20K more? My head is spinning.

I like it quite a bit! IMHO might just be the best vette since C2/C3 models. Full disclosure, I am a biased corvette owner...well make that previous owner as I ‘handed down” my 1972 Stingray to my Son as a college graduation gift ;-)

wrong it 'starts' at less than 60k, figure on a nicely equipped Z51 variant to fall in and around low to mid seventies.

Is there another mid-engine car (read Porsche 718) that will compete ? Not just no but Hell No !!

The majority of Corvette owners in this area are standing in line at the K&W Cafeteria during tapioca pudding and green bean night.

I have a 2018 Z06 2lz with the performance data recorder. Love the 650 horsepower and 650 lbs feet of torque. Only thing I changed on it is to a Corsa double Helix X pipe and a Corsa Extreme Exhaust. I cant wait to trade it in about 5 years for the c8 z06 when all the bugs have been worked out.

Just got back from dealer. They have 16 allocated, all slots have been spoken for. I'm in the 8th slot. I've been on the list for about 6 months. He thinks a late spring delivery. Pretty excited about all this. Up until the C8 I didn't consider myself a Corvette guy.

Concur

I’ve never cared for a Corvette either, but this car is extremely appealing ! I’ll wait until second year production though. First year ................. engine from front to mid ........... could be some “growing pains”.

The supposed chatter in the car world indicates the import exotics are in a panic ! A car that out performs most of them, reliable, minimal service costs in comparison, and in some cases, 25% of the cost could be disastrous for them.

There really isn’t any Euro sports car driver cross shopping this.

Just gorgeous! My younger friends have always considered the Corvette an "old man car" but this version changes everything.

Well Hell.

Do I like it because I am an old man at 52 now or do I like it because it is hot as hell.

Wrong. When the Acura NSX came out in 1991 the Italian guys were quivering. A Japanese car with equal performance, higher tech, and Honda reliable. (Also the NSX was Gordon Murray's muse for the McLaren F1 road car, he considered it light years ahead of the Italians of the day.)
The 2020 Corvette is surely doing the same thing. Equal or better performance mid engined car for a fraction of the cost of the exotics and near-exotics. There has to be some serious board room meetings going on .
