Would you trade a 5712A for a 5167A, SS Daytona and $20,000 USD?
Which would you rather have?
Patek 5712A Or Patek 5167 Rolex SS DaytonaC (White Dial) $20,000 USD |

Probably not. But I think the cash is right both ways in your favor slightly.

5167 and DaytonaC is a much more versatile duo than the 5712 alone.

Depends what other watches you have. If you literally will just have the 5712 I would go with the 2 watches and cash.

I didn't know a 5712 can be had for a 5167, daytonaC and 20k.
I still prefer the 5712 although I really like the daytonaC. It's such a special watch. |

I’d go for the 5167a, Whitona, and $20,000. And then I’d add $21,050 and buy the 5712/1a.

I would.
I love the Nautilus, but that combo plus a 5196r would be a killer threesome. |

I’d prefer the 5167 and 45k.

It had to be said, lol.
The only watch I can see replacing my 5712 with is a 5711r, or maybe a 5990. Something very special about the 5712 though. It just magically looks right with any outfit, in any setting; better than any other watch ever made. |

What I don't quite understand is you decided on the 5712 ahead of the 5167 + DaytonaC when you purchased the piece so why are you now looking to change that decision? |

I want the 5712 most of those watches so I'd take that.
Now if a 5164 plus D500 or 5712 that would be very close, even if I didn't have a Nautilus already, I'm really not sure which way I'd go... |

i have a 5712 and a ceramic Daytona and that’s a tough choice. If I know I would never have access to buying another 5712 at retail I think I would not make the trade. The 5712 is just a great watch and the 5167 doesn’t fill that gap. I have never been a huge aquanaut fan. I turned them down when they were 15k in the pre owners market why would I be happy with it now?

Heck yeah, the 5712 has that dog of a dial layout. If into wearing the watches nice trade. Money-wise as things are currently it's fair.
If into 'investing' I can't say, besides 'Boooooo' and LOL at that whole practice. 😀 |

This isn’t really meant to be a question purely about money, it’s meant to be a question as to which watch(es) you would rather have? I like the 5712 the best among the three watches, but it’s one watch. I also love the 5167 and DaytonaC, and they are two watches. I have a small collection (only other watches are a SubC Date and a Jarger Master Moon dress watch). Love the 5712, but like rotating watches, so tough call... |

If you went for the trade, you'd be missing the gem in your collection for two lesser watches that overlap with ones you already have. And if it's not about money, as you say, then the 20g is irrelevant. If you're smart, you're only spending play money on watches anyway. No way I'd make that trade (given the other watches that you already have). |

Another issue for me, is as strange as it sounds, the more the 5712 goes up in re-sale value, the less comfortable I am wearing it. Wearing a $40,000 watch is one thing, but $80,000+ makes me more concerned about everything from how often I wear it to whether I scratch it to where I wear it. Maybe not a huge difference for many, but for me it is a factor. Plus, at retail, both the 5167 and Daytona’s are under $20,000, which also makes me more comfortable wearing them. And just to be clear, when I say it isn’t entirely about the money, I mean on a going-forward bases. The $20,000 gained in the trade is a big deal. |
