Don’t shy away from Seiko

Took delivery of my first seiko a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t be happier. Believe me this time last year I’d have laughed at you if you said I’d have a seiko on my collection (total ignorance on my behalf)

I have grown to love Seiko. Started collecting them about a year ago and now has 7, 5 Seikos and 2 Grand Seikos. Joy per Dollar ( or Pound ), they bring me more joy than any other Swiss brand I have owned minus the stress and hassle. The Seiko Presage line is my favorite with those oh..so.. amazing dials, from brilliant sunburst to deep rich enamel, all for a tiny fraction of a Swiss watch. And Grand Seiko can stand it's group in terms of case and dial finishing, reliability and accuracy to the best that any premium Swiss brand can offer.

Moreover, my entire collection cost less than one of my AP! Too bad some rejected them simply because of the perceived lack of prestige of the brand name. That's their loss. More Seiko for us.

Here's a group pic of my collection.

Possibly the greatest all-round watch brand in the world, for my money.

They have everything most people value highly in a Swiss brand - history (since the late 1800's); unbroken Hattori family ownership/shareholding (still); a track record of incredible innovation & 'firsts'; appreciation of finishing, artistry, value & accuracy; and maybe the most in-house capabilities of anyone, anywhere (producing their own oils, lume, quartz etc.).

Their only 'problem' is that - through choice or error, probably the former - they don't market themselves as fiercely as some Swiss brands. Partly that's their own fault - many of the really good lines are under promoted - and partly because many cannot comprehend that the same company can make both a $100 mechanical and a $400,000 Credor minute repeater.

I'm wearing a Seiko Monster today, and awaiting delivery of a Grand Seiko SBGX263 (it's a...QUARTZ!! Shock, horror, calamity...), and both will sit happily in the same box as my Rolex.

If anyone misses the point re Seiko, then they're missing out. Simple as that.

(By the way, lovely watch, 111forza, - congratulations)

Very nice, huge congrats.

The reality is you are on a forum full of guys who buy the name on the dial. Seiko makes some amazing watches, I love their divers. They are practical, smart purchases.

I was kinda the same about the name on the dial, I do love my Rolex's and the work that goes into the movement, case, etc, but on the other hand the technology in a Seiko Solar, Radio Sync, etc, is pretty impressive too.

Thanks mate and also have to agree with your assessment on Seiko Congrats on the incoming GS that 9f quartz is the best in the business I was looking to pick up a quartz watch last year and for me it was a no brained it had to be a GS with the amazing 9f
