Really interesting proposition and possible to fit a jubilee thereby making it 6 watches for 1.

Personally I just cant get behind the 5-digit series bracelets. Very tinny, clasps are lacking... otherwise I think a 5 digit sub has the perfect sizing and case design.

I did this recently too and ended up with a GMT II Pepsi. I love the GMT complication as I live away from family. My next watch is something that could replace this one as my GADA watch.

I get the appeal. If I was to go down this route I would want one of the ultimate "go anywhere do anything" watches.

Fot it to fit that, you can forget anything in gold / platinum and also anything with polished centre links. Partly down to robustness and partly down to wearibility. PM pieces (in my opinion) have their uses, but in many scenarios I just think they look out of place.

So, my suggestion would either be a black Sub (choose any era or reference - there's no bad choice), or an Explorer 1.

Realistically, I think the the Sub and Explorer are the two ultimate GADA watches that Rolex makes. They will work in any pretty much any situation you might ever find yourself in. They're not too ostentatious (maybe a little, but nothing compared to a gold piece) and they're extremely robust and will stand the test of time.

Totally understand about having one watch.

If for everything/anything, including being somewhat of a beater:
If you travel a lot, then GMT
If you time things, then one of the divers (Sub, SD43, DSSD)

If you want some bling, Platona

A Datejust, of course. It has everything one needs.

If you have more funds, go for a DD.

This is a pretty straight forward answer to a very popular question. Sell everything and get yourself a stainless steel daytona, white dial. It'll last you a lifetime.

What's the point of this topic?

People are just mentioning any recent watch made by Rolex even though no one has any idea about his budget. I assume 10k ish but people are going from 5k to 50k.

So yeah, to break it up I would say go with the Daytona rainbow.

Love the 5-digit bracelet and the thin clasp. Would not want another one!

I can't tell you which watch you like best. Only you know that, or will know that.

If I was consolidating my current collection down to one Rolex it would be a full PM Sky Dweller or a WG Pepsi. I'd need to have a close look at both and try them on first.

Being honest, I don't think I could go down to one watch. If you get down to one watch, what is the likelihood that it will stay that way?

A lot of good input guys.
I think a Skydweller wouldn't be the good choice for a one and only because of the complexity of the bezel and the watch in general.
Choose something relatively simple.
For exemple, i'm not a GMT person so i can't really appreciate it at this value (i own 2 notwithstanding) so next for me.
This unique piece should be classy, sport, solid and versatile and up to date (movement). So why not a Bluesy? It's a beaty, versatile, playful. Or a YM ?
It's my choice, a YM1 or a Bluesy (for my taste!).

Without more information on your lifestyle it's an impossible question to answer.

I couldn't do a one-watch only, because there is no "do it all" watch.

My daily "beater" is an OP36 and I use it for EVERYTHING. Those who know, know and those who don't are non the wiser. I like it like that.

When I go sailing I bring 2-3 watches with me (we're gone from a couple of days to sometimes weeks)

1: Seiko SKX013. This is my 'sailing' watch and it is perfect in that sense. It has a Day-Date complication which is perfect for keeping track of what day/date it actually is. It has a rotating bezel which is used on a daily basis for timing various things. Plus it's a dive-watch I can wear while diving.

A Submariner wouldn't work for me because it misses the Day-date complication. I don't want to first look for my phone every time I wonder what day/date it is.

Being a sailboat it tends to get bashed around quite a bit when handling lines/heeling etc. I don't have to worry about knocking deep scratches into it because it's a 'cheap' watch.

2: A "drinks/dinner/marina" watch I will put on when we eat dinner, have drinks or go on land. Last time I brought a Date+Day.

3: Typically I will also bring the latest watch I added to my collection.

For next sail I already plan on bringing:
Seiko SKX013
TT Daytona Champagne Dial
Tudor BB58 Blue

When I go on Holiday I will bring whatever I think fits the location. Due to risk of theft (even if left in the hotel safe) I typically only bring one watch.

I don't regularly travel to places where a second timezone is needed, so don't really need a GMT. Which is also why I don't even have an interest in owning something like a Pepsi (at least for now).

A one-watch only for me would have to be a SS Submariner Date. While it doesn't tick all boxes, it ticks most of what I need from my watch.

Since I don't have a 'one watch only' collection, I don't even own a sub any longer because it has no 'function' in my collection.

Going to one watch. Staying with Rolex. What do you choose

If I was to do the same, the one Rolex watch I would keep is my YM 116622 pt dial. It's by far the most versatile watch I have. The monochrome can appear boring at first but more often than not it's surprisingly quiet, interesting and soothing, dare I say. It goes totally unnoticed, as I like it most of the time.

I'd miss my Bluesy and SD43 for the days I feel like wearing something a bit loud, but as a single piece the YM wins hands down in my book.

I'd say something like this. (Pic stolen from the internet). Iconic design and wears lighter on the wrist than the 6 digits.

Too many variables to make a call, would need to know budget, hobbies/pursuits, do you wear to work, etc etc.
