New watch alert post Covid! And some 1967 content

I was in the middle of a quarantine due to Covid infection when the call came. The voice was a familiar one and started with "How are you Mike, I have marvellous news for you!"

And then, 2 days later I finally received the watch at the store after I finally clear the virus.

Today is a day I will not forget quickly... here is the Journe Chronomètre à Résonance (40mm RG) in its full glory.

I also saw Petermann Bedat 1967 (not for sale) and LM101 at the store and spent some time playing with them. The titanium 1967 is simply gorgeous and the movement is beautifully finished with inward angles. I prefer the titanium over the RG and WG due to the striking blue dial.

Finally fiddled with the LM101 in RG. Left an impression but can't connect with the tall dome. I'm sure it will be popular though. Also saw the MB&F perpetual calendar and the new chronograph but didn't try on simply because eye test says the watches are too large for my wrist. The LM101 is probably the only MB&F that I can carry off.

That's it. Hope you enjoy the pics and have a great day!

Beautiful watch. I'm not really familiar at all with FPJ, but is it normal for the text spacing to be varied like that? I'm looking at the two lines at the top and bottom of the dial, where the letters seem more spread out on the right side than on the left. (I work in magazine publishing so this kind of thing maybe strikes me more than it would most people). Is that an FPJ thing?

Thanks and you are absolutely right in the observation of varied spacing. FP Journe watches are a little quirky and whimsical in the dial design. For instance, the 7 and 8 in the Chronomètre Bleu are a little smaller and the 3 and 9 on the QP are also much smaller than the other hours.

Many of his watches are also asymmetrical but I guess that lies the charm imo. We're meeting Masaki Saito (he heads international sales at FPJ) later this week and I will ask him that question.

Thanks, yes I can see why the 7 and 8 on the Bleu are smaller, as they're kind of compressed by the sub dial, and the 3 and 9 balance out on the other one. The text spacing on yours is more interesting to me, I assume overall balance takes precedence over spacing, and I'd be interested to know what Mr Saito says

I believe it is so that the words are centered evenly on the dial. Since "chronometre" has more letters than "resonance", the spacing in the latter was increased so that the length of the words match and are spaced evenly on each side of the dial.

We had our collectors' dinner with Masa earlier at Buona Terra and when I asked him about the asymmetrical and spacing layout of Journe's dial, his reply was "that was François-Paul's taste". I did not probe further and the conversation veered to other topics.
