DEEPSEA D-Blue speckled freckle dial

Hello RF,

A few days ago I collected my 2018 D-Blue after selling my 2015 model last year. I know should have never sold it. However after I took some high res shots I noticed flaws on the 2018 dial. Dark blue dots.

My question:
Who has a dial like this? If so what's your production year?

If we look at the history of production flaws this should mean something good

is this from an AD?? Even the font doesnt look right dude look how it flats off at the top of each character? Don't have mine anymore but that doesnt look right to me

The font is correct.

This is not uncommon. There are some dials out there with these sprinkles.

I agree with this statement. I recall a thread a few months back with someone who had the same speckles on his dial. Although it was much more than what you have.

Font looks good but I’m not liking the “freckles”.

I’d take it back to your AD for discussion. I believe a few owners have had these dials replaced.

If it bothers you then take it back to the AD; the watch has a 5 year warranty!

Looks like the screen was a bit dirty underneath before it was printed.

Being new from an AD, it can be corrected or replaced. There was another thread about this so you're not the first. It wouldn't sit well with me.

You never know. With Rolex those might become highly collectible with a premium a few years down the road!!

There was a thread a few months back detailing a Dblue dial with the same problem. From memory the dial was replaced under warranty.

I am only guessing how this dial is produced,but IMHO the black fade is possibly produced by a robotic airbrush with a very fine tip,the black sprayed over a blue base dial.In that case,the spots are paint splatter which can be caused by many things but more than likely paint build up on the tip.
Definitely a quality control issue,it does spoil a beautiful dial and I would get it replaced.

Have you noticed these with 'the naked eye' or, just in the photo's?
You say the pix were, 'high res', is your camera sensor spotless?
As I expect you know, a very small aperture will expose every spec of dust.
Just a thought.

I'd be more concerned by the poor circles on the 5 minute markers - check out 5 and 10 minutes, is that how they really look or is it a bad trick of the lens?

The dark blue speckles symbolise air bubbles from the Deep Sea Challenger.

Actually the entire watch was replaced at the insistence of Rolex.
It was all arranged through the Dealer where he bought it in another country.
The purchasers country of origin doesn't have a Rolex dealer at all.

Hats off to Rolex for making it all good for the purchaser despite the geographical challenges.

To the OP.
Yours is on the minor end of the spectrum for the splotchy paint as it at least has an equal amount of Blue and Black as we have seen much worse with the Blue extending a long way down the dial.
If it bothers you as it is, then take it up with your dealer where you purchased it. Personally I would have it changed as you have nothing to lose what so ever.
I am absolutely confident Rolex will stand behind their product and put it right for you. History has shown this to be the case many times over

don't get rid of it. If you do you are a fool . Think about how many have been returned. Keep it. You will not regret it. Down the road it will only collect in value.

They're all like that if you look close enough I don't see what all the fuss is about. I wish people would stop trying to manufacture reasons as to why their Rolex is more valuable than everyone else's. I used to own one, under the correct lighting you'll see it.

Actually they are not entirely all like that.
Most are seemingly better, and at least one we know of was a heck of a lot worse.

Over a period we are witnessing varying degrees of normality here.
I do agree there's nothing special about that dial, and in all likelihood it will be worth less than a good one as it represents little more than a degree of acceptable tolerance in quality control.

IMO the only D-blue dials which may be worth more to a select few collectors are the very few fitted to watches in the later part of last year which had a disproportionate amount of Blue extending well down into the bottom half of the dial.
