Nautilus 3800

Someone has a Nautilus 3800 and sends some pictures of it on their wrist? I'd like to know the size of the wrist and see how it fits.

Its only 36mm so probably fits up to a 6.5" wrist without looking too small

It is 37.5mm. However, it wears smaller than a round 37.5mm because the measurement is from 10 to 4 and 37.5mm is the hypotenuse. The 2 sides are shorter.

Do you know exactly how tall and long he is? The measurement in mm please

Apologies I just watched Tim's videos and the 37.5mm is from "ear-to-ear" horizontally across. The diagonal from 10 to 4 is only 35.5mm.

I don't have the exact measurements of all the sides without the ears.

The second picture in your above post in the Rolex section shows a good size comparison.

Former colleague used a 3800 as his daily. Skinny and fairly short guy with delicate wrists, I guess 6 inches at best, and the 3800 looked small.

Still a nice watch though and nobody ever noticed it given its small size, very under the radar. If you cannot get it out of your head you should go try it on some place. Not that difficult w almost 100 pieces on Chrono24 in Europe alone.

I’ve seen one on a pretty large wrist and it looked small, but really cool. Very different to a modern watch. Classic.

The 3800 is going to be a lot smaller than the DJ (36mm) and it is a lot slimmer.

Few years ago, before the Nautilus craziness exploded, many considered the 3800 sizing to be more suitable for a woman's wrist. You may want to try one on your wrist before making a purchase. Even the popular 5711/1A wears small for a lot of people.

The 3800 genuinely is not an option unless you like really small watches.
I love refined watches, and have very small wrists (around 6.25").
I own 36mm royal oaks, a dress watch at 36mm, and even a 38mm aquanaut that all work very well. I made the mistake of buying a 3800 without trying it on assuming it would wear close to how the aqua does.

Man was I wrong....
I'd say its probably a 34mm at best without counting the "ears".
I recently had my phone reset and lost a lot of my older photos, but I will see if I can find a photo on my laptop.
My suggestion is to try it before even thinking of buying one. :)

I’ve also attached a 36MM 14790, and a 38MM 5065 to show you how much better and “full” they wear. The 3800 looks really odd, and this was a good angle as it’s close up.

Edit. Apologies, the photos are all very large, but you can notice from lug to lug that the 3800 barely even fills my small wrists.

The 3800 is the smallest. Both the Royal Oak 14790 and the Aquanaut 38mm look better on you.

I think I'll definitely rule out the 3800.

Trust me, you aren't making a mistake by ruling it out.

I mean no disrespect to owners of the watch, but I think its safe to say that it wears too small on even small wrists, and even for most gents with a preference to small watches.

Ah this thread just help me on the decision about this nautilus 3800.

For further reference, I found that my new 77350st, Royal Oak in 34mm, to have very similar case size to the 3800.

Horizontally sizing on my Royal Oak it is 34mm across and the diagonal from 10 to 4 is 35.5mm, about the same as Nautilus 3800. But Royal Oak has much longer lug and tend to look bigger.

When the craze for oversized watches ends and the market is flooded with unwanted unsellable 42mm and above pieces, (tried selling a Panerai lately) a lot of people will wonder what they were thinking when they didn't pick up these PP3800s at 1/3 the price of a 5711.
Part of the reason that a 5711 sells for twice the price of a 5534 or a rare, limited production 5522 is the size, I guess it doesn't hurt that it's also just a better looking watch.

Actually this mainly is my wife watch. But sometime I also wears it.
We have exactly the same wrist size, no need to adjust the bracelet

I am 6 foot tall with small wrist. 190#’s . My SS Ceramic white Daytona wears small and that was a disappointment.... I do have 36, 38, 49-41-42 mm watches Sub, Skydweller , DD40’s Dayton Everose. They all look good on me, I like my dad 1979’s yellow gold classic tank.
You have to like I recently go a 35.5 diagonal 7118r Nautilus, yes the
ladies model, and love it, and had gotten great comments. When I was trying it on at AD some young big guys were there and they thought it was the “men’s” size.
The7118r is 38mm ear to ear and lug to lug... which my men’s calatrava 5153r is same “diameter”

If you can try the 3800 or 7118 you would see if YOU like it in your wrist.

Don’t mind what other say...if you feel it looks good on you so be it. The Nautilus is a very elegant design and 38mm size it’s elegant size.

my 5167 Aquanaut reads small and its 40, so you see....

First of all I must declare that I have small to medium wrists and wear vintage Patek pieces - even the ref 96 .
So here are some pics of the ref 388 on my wrist . You be the judge if you think it is too small . I would disagree but certainly if you are used to wearing 42 mm and larger then this watch is not for you.

The 3800 looks terrific on you. The craze for oversized watches has allowed savvy buyers to pick up relative bargains in classically sized watches, with the exception of the manually wound Daytonas, of course.
If you've followed the AP threads here the amount of angst shared over whether the 15450 was meant for men or women is laughable. Fortunately, the price and availability differential between it and the 15500 has allowed some to become comfortable in their own skin.
